  • Wich part of a CIV4 game do you like most?

I play my civ games usual to a big bang like attack on the AI. But I think that the work you have on such a big attack plan is mutch more fun that the attack itself. And the same goes with discovery the planet. It's fun to see where you find land, to start a colony. But on the other side, later in the game you can use diplomacy to get your goals!

The turns in option 1 and 2 are just a guide, the actual turns can be different, it's just that you understand what I mean with the expansion. The time that you busy to realy expand your empire.

BTW: I've voted for the start.

Ohh I forgot, you can vote to more than one option if you want. Doing so still give some impression in what most people like most in the civ game.

Expansion, as you call it. This is where you really decide which victory to go after, based on specials, opponents, opportunities, and the civ you chose. Play marathon, so turns are different, but I take this time to be from when your economy is strong enough to add to the first few cities up to medieval times (from longbowmen ending at gunpowder).

That during the expansion time you decide on wich victory you go after is somewhat strange I think. I mean if you go for cultural victory (example) you still need a huge empire to get your tech's and build your wonders. If you want to get a diplomacy victory, you also need a huge army and lots of votes, so a big civ. Can you explane how there can be a different between the way you expanse depending on the victory that you playing for?!

Actually yes, you decide a lot during the expansion phase. You won't be 100% certain of what victory, but you do decide a lot. If you happen to found a religion or two, and have the terrain for at least 2 well-productive cities, that's a possible culture victory. If you see you have Horses and Iron within your starting area, that makes it a good idea to be aggressive early on.

I'd go for the expansion era as well. This covers the period during which I build my core cities, have specialised the majority of my cities thanks to metal casting and machinery and the early governing of my first conquest if I've gone to war.

I begin to lose interest once knights come along.

With SMAC I would definitely have said the start, for towards the end it was a forgone conclusion.

Civ IV keeps me excited until the end, so I had to vote for all stages.

Intresting development! It's seems that we agree that the begin of the game is the most intresting! I was wondering what the creators can change to make the rest of the game just as intresting. I think that the discovering part is the most fun part. Later in the game you don't even need to discover the world, you can pay for other map's (like I do) and get quickly the map of the planet. Not as fun as discover yourself.

I like the early and end-game the most (voted 1, 2, 5, 6). The early game is where everything is decided, while the last part is the part where you have to work extra hard to win the game if your first goal is out of sight

                  I voted for 2,2 & 4 - expansion & the following action.

                  The planning, decision making etc
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I like the late game. By that time you can build a modern military. I hate early wars since they take forever! I like tanks and bombers. you can roll in and obliterate.

i enjoy the other aspects of the game, but the modern times in the msot fun for me. The expansion would get my second vote. It is after I expend that I loiok to "expand" further into other peopel's lands

I prefer the end game myself. Industrial forward. I usually play on Noble, but onvce i get modern, I give all the techs to my enemies and go to war with them. I just like modern warfare better than the axeman/praetorian beatdown. At least on Noble, that strategy is too easy for me and I get bored doing that often.

Since you made the poll multiple choice, I voted for both the beginning and the expansion periods.

I like the whole game. I cannot point out a favorite part. The transitions are ambiguous and steady. It all blends together into one satisfying (or no-as=satisfying if I am losing) experience.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, so I had to put up at least one voice for the view that the separations given are artificial and that it is all one game experience.

That is why I wanted the possibility that you can vote to all! So we can get a clear impression how we think about this. And most of all like the first part of the game most, wich does not mean that we didn't like the rest of the game, but jut that the first part is our favorite part.
