  • Brennus just nuked me.

Playing a game on a pangea... me vs 5 AIs

Brennus was winning, his army for outdated mine and it wasnt likely I would catch up... so I beelined for nuclear techs and stockpiled some nukes.

Well to my surprise the AI decided to pre-emptive nuke me ! He hit every city I had on the map, enough survived that on my turn I nuked everything he had. Now the whole pangea is glowing and neither of us has ecology yet to clean this mess up.

LOL. First time I've seen the AI go nuts like that... now we're both struggling to survive.... i love it !

*edit: Forgot to mention this was a sneak attack. We both had decent relations near +10. But he dropped state religion... it was maybe 4 turns after that when he suddenly started launching.

Perhaps a hard-coded function in the Modern Age related to score positions and if the opponent is stockpiling nukes?

Brennus should have passed the resolution to forbid nukes.

        Best regards,

There really isn't a pre-emptive strike in Civ, unless you strike before they build any nukes, as the nukes cannot be destroyed by nukes, or so I recall.

Also, they really should remove the global warming-thing. It's bloody annoying, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Does the Manhatten Project stop you launching nukes or just building them?

I've got a feeling that it just stops you building them but am not sure.

Manhatten Project is what allows nukes to be built. Once the project is completed any nation with uranium can build nukes.

Global warming is a real pain. 100+ years after the nuclear battle and the pangea we are on is a vast desert wastland.... with more desert popping up every turn. Like the prior poster said.... there is nothing you can do about it.

Yeah in situations like that you really miss civ2 engineers. Terraforming used to be great fun.

I can understand why they removed that option though. It was a bit too easy. In civ2 I used to build entire fleets of engineers that could turn even the worst desert city into a major powerhouse in just a few turns.

But global warming is a real ***** now.

So only use nukes if that ensures a quick victory

It's nice to see an AI actually try to prevent someone from winning a game. Usually they just roll along in second place letting you turn your tech lead into a pretty spaceship. I know if I was in Brenny's shoes I'd have done the same thing.

For that matter, wouldn't it be cool to find yourself in Brenny's place? Maybe it'd be a good scenario...

Yes please. I haven't had a decent global thermonuclear war since civ2.
I'm not buying BtS until Firaxis impliments the "contiguous cultural border negates colony tax" concept.

Enough land, but not enough population % for Domination? Easy solution, make the overall population few billion less.

Indeed! Also works for diplomatic victories!

Regarding my earlier question, I meant does the UN nuclear non-proliferation treaty (or whatever it's called) stop you launching or just building nukes?

Don't know what I was on when I wrote Manhatten project....
