  • Great Events

I had this idea a few weeks ago. We all know of great generals, great people, great wonders etc... and there are a lot of those throughout the game but there is something that seems neglected.

I call them the great events. The little blue text in the screen that shows things like "XXXX is the first to circumnavigate the globe!" and "XXXX was the first to discover liberalism."

Why aren't there more of these? Things that would give bonus's to the civilization to accomplish them. It would make it so there were more goals in the game to try and accomplish instead of world domination (the most popular one).

circumnavigating the globe isn't a huge bonus, but it helps and gives a signifigant advantage that another civ can't have. I'd like more events like that and not like liberalism and the oracle where the only creativity the dev's could make were a free technology.

Maybe the first civilization to discover all the land on the continent gets +1 sight, or +1 land movement. First unit to recieve level 7 gives all other units 3 XP due to him being such an awesome warrior and training his other folk (I know they have it with great generals already, but something along those grounds) maybe first civ to destroy another civ gets the free xp points.

First person to be elected leader in the UN gets 50% more votes each election.

I'm curious to see what other people think about this and other ideas like this.

Circumnavigating gives a bonus to every civ in warlords that gets it. Unbalance is the reason more events aren't in the game. Knowing a continent would give extreme unbalance to civs that begin with scouts. Extra xp from getting a unit at level 7 would give extreme unbalance to Charismatic and Imperialistic leaders (esspeacialy Cyrus).

I like the concept, even if the ideas may be unbalancing. Perhaps we can find other 'events' that can reward without unbalancing.

First civ to meet all the other civs, some kind of trade bonus?

It's been a long time so I don't remember them. Some flashed up as newspaper items.

One was the plague. But there were some good items too.

Mmm. Earthquakes, volcano eruptions, etc. Random acts of mother nature, or the inscrutible will of god, or of the prime mover, or whatever. Those were the days.

Shortlasting effects, just enough to push a not-too-happy civ to war with you...

Or, as they say, "Our close borders spark tensions." So let the sparks fly, a border altercation escalates into a war which neither really was prepared for.
