  • new laptop, stats for civ4/warlords

Hi Guys, play civ on my desktop, but been given a new laptop from work, ATI Radeon xpress 200, Celeron 1.5ghz, and 512Mbyte Ram.

Anyone run Civ on specs like these? My Desktop struggles on the lowest settings, same RAM, 2.4ghz processor and I don't remember my graphics

even on lowest settings, the game will crawl, and may even be unplayable.

Dunno about that, been playing it on my laptop with no performance problems at all. Slows down a bit if I use top graphics settings, but medium across the board is working just fine.

        1.25gb mem, 64mb dedicated graphics, 1.5mhz pentium M - it's about 2 years old now...

            nope - Civ 4

PS - To clarify - it's the laptop that's 2 yrs old - not the game....!

My Centrino 1.7GHz, 512 MB, ATi Mobility Radeon 9700SE laptop can play the game on the lowest settings, but it is sometimes slow. However, I never play Civ4 on the laptop, for after some time, typically some 20-40 minutes, the computer overheats and the processor speed is permanently(until reboot) set to 220 MHz. Which ain't pretty I can assure you.

So no, I wouldn't play Civ4 on such an old machine.

Not an ideal setup, it might be a bit slowish and you'll want to avoid the biggest maps and highest graphics settings, but it should run fine.

Ouch! I'll agree that my laptop does tend to heat up a lot during play - but other than that, everything works fine. Never had a speed reduction - what make is it?

Most modern procs give you a speed reduction thanks to SpeedStep. My ancient P3 1 GHz (on which Civ4 is playable until around 500 AD) clocks down to 667 MHz.

It's a Medion computer. An allround crap device. But now it's way too late to do much about it.

Cheers guys, it is brand new. I spend a few days away each month, and it would be good to have Civ to play.....keep me away from the bar. Looks as if it will be duel maps in black and white

It might be brand and new for you, but it certainly isn't brand and new technology.
