  • 2050 time limit

how do I go about abolishing this? I did not see it in the game options at start-up. I really hate the time limit.....

I believe you can just tick off the 'Time Limit' victory when starting a new custom game, then you shouldn't be bothered with the time limit... or at least that's what I believe, haven't tried it myself

Of course you can also just press the "one...more...turn" button then the limit has been reached, then you can just play on (though no future scores are recorded)...
This space is empty... or is it?

I used to do option number two all the time with Civ3... ah the days before the option to take Time off the victory conditions.. and the times before Marathon... Thank goodness they are gone!

I'm bored by then. the most fun in the game comes long before 2050.

If the game goes by too fast, try Epic or Marathon speeds. At any speed, at the difficulty levels of Noble and above, there shouldn't be anything left to do by 2050 in terms of victory. If you just want to keep building, just keep playing -- the score can't mean that much to you. (The methodology used in determining final score may well "flip" post 2050. That is, the longer you play the less of your existing score will count in the final score.)

I think that it flips earlier than that. I just finished a game in around 2030 and I had a score that was 20 points less than what it said in game.

that's because of the normalization of the score. I'm not sure how they do it. But the earlier you finish, the more bonus you get. At a certain point, you don't get any bonus, and as you have seen, the score goes down.

Try playing Marathon - the game should be over before 2050.

                Plus it's more fun.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

                  Fixed it for you.

Seriously, I used to love Marathon mode, but now that I've played some faster games, Marathon mode is just simply too damned slow. Hell, I dispute that the game should be over - everything takes so long that you're using a lot of that time to build crap.

Me, I'd perfer a mode with Marathon time but with normal speed building.

marathon is okay. I alternate between that an epic.

I like marathon because units you build tend to have longer life-spans before their upgrades come to oust them, it makes for better wars and more interesting games (for me at least).

But I too would greatly prefer a mode with Marathon time and normal build speed... just think of the armies you'd be able to build and the life-spans of them! I want that!
