  • Not a technical problem per se...

I was wondering if there's any way to allow city razing in a game that was set to disallow it initially. I was playing an awesome game as Japan and got into the Classical Era before I captured a city, at which point I realized that City Razing had been turned off in an earlier game and I had forgotten to unclick it.

So...is there any way at all? Or is this game basically screwed?

I think the settings are stored in the saved games. Have a look. Don't forget to back it up first.

How do I change it if it is? Do I need a savegame editor or can it be done within Civ4?

Not within Civ 4. I haven't opened a saved game, but probably at least parts of it is text (XML). Try that first. If that doesn't work, maybe you need a hex editor or something that works specifically with Civ 4 saves.

I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

          Oh well, thanks anyway.

I couldn't find a way to turn on City Razing, but you can accomplish much the same in the Worldbuilder:

            * Press Ctrl + W to enter the Worldbuilder.
            * In the box at the upper right, select Enter Erase Mode.
            * Click on the city in question. Be sure to move units out of the city first.

The city will be deleted. Now exit Worldbuilder. Hope that helps.

You can't raze cities in civ4.
