  • Did I really just declare war?

Just wanted to check that I wasn't going crazy. Has anyone else had a message stating that you just declared war on someone when you didn't?

I would have attached my auto save except it is to big!

Third time this happened to me from memory... Anyone else?

I'm not positive about the situation, but I did have that happen in the Genghis Khan scenario. Normally, you'd be forced to declare war if someone declared war on your vassal or a civ with whom you have a defensive pact. Did that happen to you?

In my first (and only) playing of the Genghis Khan scenario, I had moved west after getting the civics from the Xi-Xia and Jin, wiped out the Uighuar and swallowed the center of the Khwarizmean lands where I settled. I fought a series of wars declared by others where I took out the Sultanate of Dehli, crippled the Russian states until they capitulated, and then eliminated the Abbassids. At that point, I had the Russians as a vassal. The Song had the Jin, the Koreans, the Polish and the remaining Khwarizmeans as vassals, and the Song declared war on me (for no reason, as I had no troops anywhere close to them). What should have happened, as I understand it, is when the Song declared, his vassals should have declared war on me automatically, followed by the Russians declaring war on each of them. That was not how it played out, however.

For whatever reason, the game ran it in this order: the Song declared on me, the Russians declared on the Song, the Jin declared on the Russians, I declared on the Jin, Korea declared on Russia, I declared on Korea, Khwarizm declared on Russia, I declared on Khwarizm, and at this point the Sultanate of Q'ul (who I had been on great terms with at this point) declared war on me because I had declared war on 3 of its friends! I quit in disgust at that point, and will never play that scenario again.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

You must have had a vassal. The vassal has been attacked by someone so you declared war on the attacker automatically.
It's mostly fun when said vassal has just been destroyed.

I checked the log and found that Hannibal attacked my partner in a defensive pact.

When the messages came on the screen originally I swear that it had me attacking first...

        Oh well, been wrong before.
