  • Adding music files?

I was wondering whether it would be possible to add additional music files of mine to the Civ4 playlists. I would guess that it's possible and there's some script somewhere telling the program what files to play for what era, but I don't really know where to look. Anybody know how to go about doing this?

      I like your username

Also, please don't follow Jaybe's link , as CFC is for hippies

To add custom music, you need to copy your songs to the Assets\Sounds\Soundtrack\[era] folders.

Hmmm... I have added mp3s to the proper era folders, but they do not seem to be playing in-game. Has anyone verified that this has worked on their computers? I suppose it might be possible that random playing has avoided my files.

I think I might have to modify the audio .xml files or some other files or something. I see the following code in the audiodefines.xml file:
          < SoundData >
          < SoundID >SONG_USER_DEFINED< /SoundID >
          < Filename>UserDefined
          < LoadType>STREAMED
          < bIsCompressed>1
          < bInGeneric>1
          < /SoundData >

Which implies that it should be able to load user defined music, but I'm not sure if I have to tell it the songs manually or whatever. I'll keep playing in the meantime to see if it's just random chance that it's not playing my files.

I know an alternate solution is to rename my files as the files which already exist in the folders, but then I lose those songs and I'd rather have both.

I'd be interested in knowing about this, too. I think it would be nice to add your own music to each era folder. I'd still like to keep the original game music in the game, of course.

I had tried previously to put music in the Soundtrack folders but it didn't work. I think that you do have to edit the xml soundtrack file - but I didn't trust myself to do it, and didn't want to spend the time doing it anyway.

In the end I copied all my Star Wars soundtrack files into one folder and put it as the custom music folder in the options menu. Best I could do.

If someone has had success in adding music to the soundtrack folders, I would also be interested in knowing!

I did this some time ago. It involves editing several xml data files. Here's a link to the relevant post in the thread I created on the subject.
