I was getting bored too. I used to love playing island maps because I loved racing to the Galleon to be able to settle distant lands. But I realize the AI is not very challenging in island maps so I started getting bored.

What I started doing now is playing the Highlands map. It has really rekindled some interest for me, because it makes some really interesting twisty curvy routes accross the map with lots of bottlenecks and dead-ends. And the AI seems to do pretty well in it.

I was mainly asking about some of the options introduced in the patch (I don't have Warlords btw). Although some of these options may have always been there.

I was wondering what experiences you all had with them, and what effect they had on gameplay.

Always war. This one seems interesting. Although how does that affect war weariness.

And there's another options about always war or peace, or something like that. Although it doesn't say which. Is it random?

is there someplace that explains all these paramaters you can change?

Always war has always been there and is interesting for a change. No trading to benefit from others' hard work.

Dis, join a Democracy Game (such as the Single Player DG) or a PBEM. This has really got me interested in the game again

played a game with always war or peace option on.

I don't understand that option. There's 3 total. Always war, always peace, and always war or peace.

I thought I'd be permanently at war with some ai's and permanently at peace with others. But I ended up permanently at peace with all of them.

kind of a boring game with no war. I was playing raging barbs (my first time). That was interesting as the ai didn't build up much military perhaps because they knew they wouldn't have to fight the other ai's or human. But the barbs raped their ass. . Maybe they always do with raging barbs. And it was my first game I managed to build the great wall. . So I didn't exactly have to deal with raging barbs.

I never got that option either. Tried it once, but as you're at peace with everybody all the time, it's just boring. But why have two different options for a "no war" game

I've never tried it. Maybe it's 50% chance of always war and 50% chance of always peace.

tried the always war option. Very tough indeed. Not quite as tough as playing team games against the ai, but still tough. If I stuck with it, I might have been able to pull off a victory, but it seemed to be too much a pain in the ass.

Random civ (aztecs) balanced map, warlord difficulty, marathon speed, always war, raging barbs.

I got the great wall built, so I didn't have to worry about the barbs too much. You'd think that alone would garantee victory. But the French kept pulling ahead. Luckily I had a uu that didn't require hooking up to resources. I stomped one Celctic city and a nearby persian city. I should note my starting location wasn't that great, but it wasn't that bad either. I just can't figure out how the french (louis XIV) was able to build so many cities with raging barb. Even though it was a balanced map, it appears during the replay after I retired, that he was left fairly alone by the other ai's. they all went after me. .

By all means, get "Warlords" Dis.

I'm impressed with it and I think you will be as well.

If you quit when you 'get the lead'..... use that GUI option to turn visible scores off. Then you dont really know for sure where you are at.

actually, I already have it. .

my last couple posts in this threads involve options only available in warlords (I think).

Some of the warlord scenarios have been entertaining.
I wouldn't buy a game for just the these, but they're an interesting diversion between MP games.
