  • The Great Wall

I am not a modder, but if I could I would like to request a mod from the community.

I like to build the Great Wall Wonder. Its effects are good, but I also think it looks cool on the map. I know its effects grow with our influence, but the actualy wall on the map doesn't. Is it possible to make the graphic of the wall grow with your influence border?

From a graphics standpoint, it would be nice also if you could see some of the other wonders on the main screen without having to zoom in. Is this feasible?

Just a thought, and thanks for whatever comes in the way of reply or mod.

While not a real fix, you can get the game to re-draw the Great Wall by de-selecting and re-selecting it in the world builder edit-city dialog.

I'm looking for a mod that does the opposite:
I don't want the effects to grow with the borders. It's not like the chinese tore down the wall to rebuild it everytime time they got more land
This space is empty... or is it?

According to the wikipedia the wall was built 5 times,
beginning with the wall the first chinese emperor, Quin Shi Huang built,
with only the last one, from the Ming () dynasty, erected during the 14-17th century, still standing (and being the one we normally mean if we talk about the great wall, as all of the other ones normally aren´t clearly visible anymore)

To reflect this IMHO it would be interesting to have the GW (and its effects ) grow with the cultural borders, until a certain medieval technology (or one tech from a list of medieval techs) is developed.
From this point on the wall doesn´t grow with your expanding cultural borders anymore and barbarians can enter your cultural borders at will, as long as they are located outside of the area enclosed by the great wall.

It'd be nice if it re-expanded each time you enter a new era, until perhaps the industrial age...

But I still doubt they tore the wall down to rebuild it elsewhere. I believe the wall was build in steps, like first they built from A to B, then long time later they built from B to C and so on (which basicly is like the building time in the game, when done building, then it's "done")
This space is empty... or is it?

Sounds like the first walls weren´t built of stone like the last one, but were less permanent structures like earth walls which connected wooden watch towers, which also explains why the first great wall took just 10 years to complete whereas the last one took 200 years (although there was also a difference in length, the first one only covered the northern border of the 3 countries which formed the northern border of the first chinese empire, whereas the last one stretched from the korean border to the border between china and manchuria.
