  • Custom game ideas?

Thought I'd start a thread about how to inject some variety into the gaming experience by setting up unusual conditions for your game.

Here's what I'm currently playing, and it's fun enough to be worth mentioning methinks:

A One city challenge on a standard highlands map, marathon mode, raging barbs - and with a twist that makes things interesting: aim for a conquest victory! (As LordShiva would say: "Space race is for hippies! " )

This would never work in the vanilla game, but with the introduction of the great wall and warlords to help you... it becomes an interesting challenge!

I'm trying this at noble, and up untill now at least, I've had no serious trouble - I've eliminated Alexander already, and am working on Ragnar. I chose Tokugawa to play as; not optimal for "traditional" space race OCC game, but really handy at an OCC conquest challenge... Got to love those samurai! (Fortunately I have iron...)

Does anyone else have unusual custom game ideas worth trying out?

With SmartMap, 160X100, Marathon, Raging Barbarians, Aggressive AI, low resources against only Montezuma, Tokugawa, and Shaka Zulu. You pick your favorite civilization.

You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Here's something I tried for fun...

Highlands map... then edited it so that the map was broken into about 6 sections. Each section can hold about 5-6 cities spaced out. The sections are lined with mountains in such a way that there is only 2 entrances/exits into each section. The passages are 1 square wide.

You the secure each section by building a fort or city right on the entrance preventing anything from coming in without going through the bottleneck force first.

As long as you can protect/hold 2 squares... you can live to fight another day !

Not very realistic... but interesting game.

Almost the same as holding a corner in a 'ringworld'.

Nice ideas - the super OCC is just insane!

Tried "always war" in an OCC game once, but I had expected that "always war" ment that EVERYBODY would be at war with everybody else - instead, it seems that I'm the only one at war with everybody, and the rest are free to handle their relations as they see fit. We need an "all-against-all always war" option!

As for my conquest OCC challenge, I've now killed off Alexander, Ragnar and Hannibal, and Masa Musa is next on my menu.

You can set it up that all are at war with all else - just start a custom game. IIRC, as long as you set AIs to be on different 'teams' they'll fight each other ... else start it as an MP game with all AIs, but custom should do the same.
<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

                IIRC?

Well, when you say fight each other, do you mean the entire game? Or will they only occasionly fight each other? Can I make it so everybody is at war with everbody else?

I wish that "always war" meant everyone was at war with everyone else, but you could just do the same thing if you put everyone on the same team except you and immediately declare war.
