  • Fight off Barbarians! Chalenge

For a chalenge, play a game, 160x100 tiles, against Tokugawa, Shaka, and Monty, or if you don't have warloards replace Shaka with Genghis Khan, with raging barbarians and aggressive AI, Pangea. I'm about to start a game like that.

    Oh also on Marathon speed.

I've just started. It's 2080 BC and I've just gotten the Great Wall build, though all I've gotten is 1 warrior, 1 worker, 1 city (the one you make with the starting settler) and that great wall. I believe the barbarians will start raging soon.

Here's a screenshot of progress so far. http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/5...enge001na6.jpg

Looking in the World Builder at 400BC there is 1 Aztec City, 1 Zulu (though it's appearent thye had more cities earlier), 3 English (that's me), 4 Japanese cities, and 6 Barbarian cities. Looking a little more in detail, it seems that the Zulu Empire is soon to be wiped out.

508 AD, in World Builder I can see Montezuma still has 1 city (they started in a bad spot), Tokugawa has 6 cities, and is doing very well. Due to the shape of the fragment, they are very protected from Barbarians. I have 5, but I have a settler and I am about to make another city. And the Zulu Empire has been wiped out, they died at 400 AD. There are 15 Barbarian cities, which is more then there are civilized cities (12 civilized).

It's 875AD, the Aztec Empire has been destroyed by Barbarians. City count is England - 7 Japan - 6 Barbarian - 19. Barbarians have 3 technologies I don't even have (Meditation, Iron Working, and Monotheism) I still havn't met any civilizations, but there's already 2 I will never have a chance to meet. It appears that both me and Japan will survive the Barbarians. But it's easy to see Japan has better military power then I do (I started in a very resource poor area near a bunch of desert) We are both very far behind technologically then we would have been had we chosen a later start at this year. I doubt eigher of us will be at the Industrial age by 2050 unless something dramatic happens.

Wow, that was a new way to play! Well, I guess if you don't get that Great Wall running, you're f**ked... Could this be a way to win at the higher levels? Just "ally" with the barbarians?

Hmm, think I'll might try a game like this soon

        Excuse my stoopidness

but how do you select that map size (ie is that small?)
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Better yet, see the Rome vs the barbarians scenario over at Realms beyond Civ (Diety Raging Barbs) or Blake's report on his handling of that game. Very interesting. No Great Wall, was vanilla.

I accidentally deleted the saves for this one, so I stoped updating.

Nugog, when you use SmartMap, you have the option to choose the actual tiles amounts. Huge is 128x80 I believe.

            Where is that DirtyMartini?

how well did the great wall work out for you?

Ive been thinking about how to maximize the space that is protected by the great wall, that would help here. any way of realistically getting a great artist before an early great wall?

The Great Wall protects your entire cultural boarders on that continent not just the ones enclosed by the great wall.

I know, for purposes of games like this it should cost a lot more I think.
