  • Anyone else get occasional game hiccup?

I've been noticing every now and then that game sometimes hangs for a good 5 seconds or so. Loopy music and all. And then poof. Goes back to normal. (Thank god no new crashes yet).

I never used to see it with vanilla Civ... Anyone else getting this?

(It's not all that often, I've only seen it twice now).

Speaking of loopy music, I ran into some kind of horrible sound file error during my end-game this morning. Whenever I selected a foreign city to activate my spy within, I got blasted by a scratchy distortion sound that faded away in about five seconds. This happened over and over again. No freeze or hiccup was associated with it, but I am trying to sniff around to see if I have a corrupted sound file in my Warlords install. Or maybe I just needed a reboot.

I have reported this as well. Please post anything you find helpful.

Is this reproducible from a save?

Sometimes when speaking to a leader my game freezes for 5 secs or so, but it's always done that.

I'm not sure. I just went back into the game using this save (I'll try to attach) and the error was not occurring. It may be that I just needed to restart the program. I'd been playing for several hours.

To clarify, the loud distortion sound didn't occur every time I selected my spy in a foreign city, but it happened on a very regular basis--maybe 50% of the time.

Feel free to check out my save file. I have three spies in the English cities (Nottingham, and two others--sorry can't remember names off hand).

EDIT: The forum isn't yet accepting Warlords save files, so I'll put it up on my own domain: http://www.rjwoerheide.com/temporary/RobertAD2040.zip

Occasionally Nemoy's voiceover for the discovery of a tech will skip/loop a few times like a broken record, but it always rights itself.

If like me you just accept all the techs you get in trades together you can get him to say lots at the same time and that sounds kinda weird too.

i'm having issues with the game flashing all terrain black every turn.
it's just my opinion. can you dig it?

This is not an occasional hiccup but happens everytime I play. Whenever I start a new game using the Single Player option, the game automatically defaults to the Warlords Scenarios selector, not the selector I last cose. I find it a bit annoying because I always have to scroll up to Play Now.

From time to time, esp during heavy air bombardment, the sound will go totaly over the top. I get a terrible scratching/white noise that lasts a few seconds, before the game moves on.

That "terrible scratching/white noise that lasts a few seconds" is exactly what I experienced. I'm wondering if maybe it is something more than simply needing to restart? (see above for save file.)

This happens to me whenever world maps are
traded. It's because the game needs a short while
to adjust the world map and the visible terrain.

Yeah that is the most common driver for it to occur but it also happens other times to me.

I also get lag when trading world maps. I'm assuming that's because it requiers a big update of the game map.
