Can this be used for MP if all the players don't have warlord?

Certainly. If you run the original Civ4 exe, the game won't care that you have Warlords - in fact, it won't even know. As you may have noticed, the GameSpy lobbies for Civ4 and Warlords are separate, too.

Thanks, having just picked it up, I wanted to make sure. I'm sure the rest of the guys haven't all bought it yet. And we can not not play on Saturdays.

one annoying thing: to play vanilla civ4, you have to put the vanilla cd in the drive. to play warlords, you have to put the warlords cd in the drive.
'tis a pain in the arse to have to keep swapping cd's because I've still got a vanilla pitboss game going, but am otherwise playing single player warlords.

You can't be THAT lazy that you have to reach over to the vanilla CD, pick it up, open the disc drive, take out warlords, put it down, and then place the vanilla CD in the drive.
it's a pain because the computer is at an angle that puts the dvd drive under the desk by a fair amount (the angle is to enable better cooling and keep the fan noise on the GPU down). It's also a pain because the only time either cd is likely to be scratched is while putting it in/out of the drive. And I'm finding myself doing that multiple times a day, whereas previously I only had to do it once every couple of weeks at most.
not a big deal. but nonetheless, a pain.

...Can you?
It's annoying and useless. And on a laptop, I don't want to be carrying a bunch of CD's around.
Anyone who can get pirate a game can and will get a no-CD crack. The copy protection is worthless and irritates only people who buy the game.

I find it a pain swapping disks in and out for my pbem several times a day when Im playing something else. My conquests cd cracked taking out my cd drive eventually

Also, the dvd drive on MY laptop doesn't like the copy protection mechanism. I can't start the game, it crashes on the copy protection check (even before the window with python/xml... loader bar shows up)
So i had to get a crack to even be able to play it, despite having paid 27EUR for the expansion. Way to go. I have the same problem with C3C (not with CIV vanilla, civ3 vanilla or civ3 PTW though).
If you have the hard drive space, you could create an image of the DVD using Nero or something, and mount it as a separate drive using Daemon Tools.
