I just got it at Best Buy, $29.99.

Gamestop/EB both showed 0 in stock on the web, so I went to the closest store with inventory. They had about 20 copies of Warlords on the shelf, believe it or not.

I was with the family getting some groceries and so forth at the big box store next to this other Best Buy and the family convinced me it was worth a try. It was!

Now, neither you nor my family will hear from me again for a little while.
When I to went to Best Buy they had the Warlords price under the some civ4 vanilla boxes. Turns out the manager played civ4 and was happy to go to the storage room and get 8 boxes of Warlords.

Yep, got it at Best Buy. Playing the Vikings scenario now, and if I am not mistaken, that scenario uses music from Civ III.

The whole thing uses a lot of music from Civ III. Kinda disappointing, IMHO.

I got it earlier this evening from Best Buy. Playing as the Carthaginians and have Brennus and Memed close by (as well as Louis somewhere).

Working nights -- got it yesterday am, played too long and neglected sleep, tired tonight.

Playing as Vikings on Noble (usu. play Monarch, but thought I'd knock it down a few steps to try out the new goodies)

First impressions -- half price settlers for imperialistic seems huge in the early game. Settler first may be the way to go in certain circumstances.

AI is much more ship-crazy -- there are triremes buzzing all over the place in my current game.

Haven't yet popped a great general.

Vikings trading post+circumnavigate+berzerkers is pretty cool for an ultramobile amphibious force, but hard to build both enough berzerkers and enough galleys to make full use, I envisioned declaring war, amphibiously capturing all coastal cities within a couple turns. Waiting until astronomy seems too late to take advantage of berzerkers. Also, do Berzerkers keep amphibious when they're upgraded?

Definite geography bias for several civs -- Vikings or Carthage with no coast or (less likely) Celts without extensive hills = not very fun.

Basic combat seems to have been slanted toward the defender with unit nerfs and the protective trait (picture attacking Tokugawa's combat I, city garrison I, drill I riflemen while he's running theocracy and vassalage!) Great generals and the benfits they provide seem essential for the attacker to keep up.

The importance of trade routes has been beefed up with modification of castles, the new Temple wonder, and Carthage's UB. Yet another aspect of empire finance to max out.

Looking forward to playing on in the (later) am.

Also, what's up with commerce, science, gold, maintenance reporting to two decimal places?

Really? I was happy to hear some of them again, had a nostalgic quality. And, more importantly, I had early game music! woo!

I started a game last night as Carthage. I moved down in difficulty to Prince to give me a chance to get used to all the new improvements. I managed to build all three new wonders!
So far, I have had a very favorable impression of Warlords, and recemend it to all.

Does it mean that they only get added up and rounded up/down at empire level? That would be quite cool and make some forms of extreme micro-managing people do redundant.

                    • Less than actually play, I largely fiddled around. Opened up the Vikings scenario and played a handful of turns there to see how ransoming cities and researching treasure worked, played the Alexander scenario just long enough to take three cities from the Persians, and roamed about half an hour or so in the Barbarian scenario. Maybe played three hours total. This weekend I am planning to fire up the core game as Churchill and play through.

                      • Got it yesterday from Best Buy. Only played around a bit. I the read the manual and noticed something: They un-nerfed quecha's! Inca lost it's aggressive trait so everyone thought that Quecha's would not start with combat one. They gave Quecha's combat one anyway.

                              Good.

I'll probably pick it up on the way home tonight.

                              • Got it at Fry's in Fremont (California). Price: $24.99. Plenty of copies left.

The store's placement leaves something to be desired. They have Civ 3 on the same shelf as Warlords. It's hard to identify the version, since the main title on the box is just Civilization. The Civ 4 boxes are on the shelf below. Hope no one picks up Civ 3 to go with Warlords.
