Shale Plant is +10 production instead of +10% production. If you have all the production enhancing buildigs that's +20 production.

The horse archer nerf puzzles me.

It probably was so that they could bring up chariots to around the same level as Horse Archers, since they are two seperate units now.

The Horse Archer nerf encourages combined arms further. Horse Archers are the best in field, Axemen and Swordsmen are good city takers, but the Axeman now also has a direct counter - Chariot - which sucks against everything else.

Shale plant suddenly looks a lot lot better, potentially even the least active Japanease city can have 22 production. Excellent.

The horse archer nerf (combined with the new chariot bonus) seems to be an attempt to completely diversify pre-machinery combat. Every unit now has a specific function. Without one there will be a weakness in your civ. This could make the early game very interesting and much more difficult when it comes to focusing on getting builder technologies.

Edit: What Solver said on horse archers.

And moreover, it sort of decreases the Axeman's dominance. The Axeman used to be a counter unit without a direct counter itself, and it was also decent at taking cities. Now the Axeman, just like all other units in that timeframe, has something it sucks at.

In the game set up screen there are 2 new options world wrap (choices are flat, cylindrical (default), and toroidal) and Resources (Standered and balanced).

Originally Firaxis probably tried to make a complicated "Rock-Paper-Scissors" method of the units, but it didn't really work, so this is their second try.

Question for anyone with the game: do the AI dogpile civs in the early game without access to horses? It seems like the logical thing to do.

Edited due to a misreading of Prussia's above post.

I never said they were trying to change the rock-paper-scissors method, I said that when they did it in the vanilla it obviously didn't work as well as they hoped so they made it a requirement to use it this time.

How much did Praetorians used to cost? Manual says 8str 45 production now, dunno if that's changed at all. I can't remember all these numbers like some of you can

                            Installing now!

In a way its good to have a counter to axes. However, having really strong counters for everything just strengthens defence even more, since you always attack the best defender. I was kinda hoping they'd realise this and weaken some of the counters.

Says that Quecha still start with Combat I, even tho Huayna lost Aggressive. I remember some people lamenting that a bit. Could be a manual error of course.
