  • Inverse Difficulty levels

    Hello All,

I'm curious if anyone has played with all civs with the lowest difficulty level?

In a custom game, setting the AI opponents difficulty level to a low setting, so they get the bonuses the player gets at that level.

I didn't think that was possible. The AIs difficulty level has always seemed to be unchangeable to me. How do you access this?

What I meant was ... Say you play at Noble or better and set the AI difficulty to Settler.... I was just curious how difficult it made things for the player.

              Thedrin,
You have to set up a custom game. As you add in your opponents, you can change their difficulty level.

I always play custom games. Ordinary set up is too limited for my liking.

I just opened up the game and tried to find a way to change the AI's difficulty settings. Couldn't find a way. I do see the difficulty level listed next to each AI but it's greyed out and unaffected by various selected options or the introduction of teams.

I see no way of changing it. It's always set at noble.

                    Okay,
Now I feel stupid, I thought you could change AI difficulty levels. You probably can if you found the right files. I thought it would make for an interesting game.

Actually playing a multiplayer game you can change the AI difficulty levels. I'm playing an Earth map and lowered Japan to warlord difficulty. They are the second place AI. So it seems to be working (I think).

But you cannot do so in single player.

hmm, although now I think of it. Japan might be in second place because I ***** slapped the other AI players (India, Egypt, Romans, Greeks, and the Chinese). Only the Mongols escaped my wrath. But they start in a ****ty position anyways.

You can change it, but you have to go to the XML. But then every AI will start at Settler, so you can't for instance have 1 AI be level Settler and another AI be Chieftian.

AFAIK the difficulty code handles human players and AIs separately, so if you set your difficulty to noble and AI difficulty to settler it would be a very easy game indeed because the AIs would actually be punished.

If you select custom game, you can set each AI difficulty as you choose. Note, however, that their bonuses, etc., come in the reverse of yours. So an AI at deity level is like you at settler level. So, if you want them to be tougher, set their difficulty higher than yours. Note: you can do this even for random opponents or you can name your poisons. You can also change the number of opponents.
