  • Charismatic + Warlord

So, Charismatic leaders get a +25% bonus to XP.

Warlords provide a 50% bonus to XP to units they're attached to...

Are these cumulative? Does a Warlord unit attached to some other unit under a Charismatic leader get a 75% XP bonus? It's only one unit, but wowzer, that thing is going to grow nicely if so.

The Warlord bonus says 50% more XP, not +50% XP, I think. Can you show where exactly that Warlord bonus was mentioned?

      Maybe I was misreading:

"Once you get access to these guys, you can attach them to one of your combat units, which confers upon them a 50 percent experience bonus, as well as free upgrades whenever they become eligible."

I assumed the bonus was an on-going thing. I suppose it could be a single shot bonus instead.

Free upgrades for the unit? That alone is worth hundreds of gold coins, if you get a warlord in the early game.

My money's on using the GG for Academies and Advisors. At least the benefits will last throughout the whole game. Using it as a Warlord seems awfully risky, unless you're generating tons of them in a game.

So roughly how many advancements do you have to get before one of them is generated? And do the points required escalate like the regular GPs do?

Can you use a GG to trigger a golden age?

You won't see too many in a given game. I did see 2, but one of them was from being the first to get to a late game tech, I forget which one.

The first one I earned took 30 XP, and I noticed it can't be barbarian XP, it has to come from fighting other Civs. The next time the bar reset after I got that first GG, the amount I needed for a second GG (or third, in my case) was 90. I'm not sure if that huge jump was because I had gotten a free GG during the time I was earning the first one, or if the scale just jumps that high. 90. Sheesh.

There was someone else on a another thread that said it went 30/60. So maybe it skipped 60 because of the free one. Consequently, what speed is that on?

That was playing on Normal. I just saw that same thread you were talking about, and it does seem like it skipped 60 since I had gotten the "free" one. Not so free, then?

The way I understood is was (and somebody who actually has the game can probably correct me if I'm wrong):

Charismatic gives cheaper promotions: So you need 25% less XP for each promotion.

Warlords: Give a 50% bonus to XP earned. So your units accumulates XP faster.

So yeah, such a unit would be able to get some awesome promotions.

Warlords have three promotions that they can grant to units they are attached to: Leadership: +50% experieince gained, morale- +1 movement point, and tactics- 30% withdraw chance. These three promotions have no prereqs.

In my first game I am fighting lots of wars, and so far I have earned three GG's. The first one I attached to a unit that was already level 4 (with three city attacks). The promotions were slow to come in this case. What I did with the later generals was to attach them to newbie units, so I could get all three of the special promotions faster (when you attach a GG to a unit the stack of units splits a 20xp bounty- so if you have four units stacked there each gets 5 xps). Now the problem I am having is that the GG units have a tendency to get killed, since they are the strongest and get attacked first.

The free promotions are very nice though, and as I learn to be more careful to protect these units from counterattack, I think they can really make a difference long-term. The other uses for GG's are ok, but so far using them to create superunits and give other units xps instantly seems more fun.
