I think that being able to give AI's different levels of difficulty is a fantastic idea!
If this were included in Warlords it would probably be the one reason I buy it.
Anyone know if it would be possible to easily mod this?

i could be wrong but i think you canset this in the custom game screen,

i think that only adjusts the bonuses, but i think that that is really all that changing the difficulty does, i willl test!

      Edit: thats a negatory.

This is one of the better aspects of civ 4 IMO: The survival of minor civilizations. At times I could see Civ 3 turning into the "Cold War Game," always ending with two giant empires that couldn't really beat one another.

But something about it never quite felt right. It was incredibly boring. This is why I've always wanted to learn how to mod properly, that I might make a decent cold war scenario.

It's unfortunately, not that easy. I tried this too. The AI's are all set to "Noble" difficulty on the Custom screen.

Defenders have quite a bit more of an advantage in Civ4. A smaller civilization, focused on defense could survive in a war against a larger. So, just because one AI is growing doesn't mean that it would necessarily envelop the world.

You've just described 90% of the Civ 3 games that I played. I always chose continents, and it almost always ended with me completely conquering my continent and one AI civ completely conquering their continent. The end game was usually a space race, but every once in a while I'd decide to have some fun & launch a massive nuclear attack against my rival. It was time consuming, but great fun.

lately I see the AI conquer the other all the time (though usually not more than 1 civ). Very rarely do all the civs make it to the end of the game (though usually they are destroyed by me. ). But I usually see an AI take over 1 other one. They make for a formidable opponent. With such a large empire, they are very good at research. I have no desire to face larger empires.

Though it might be nice to see from time to time.

Indeed and that is a foolish tactic for it allows you to bring your troops just in time into the battlefield to save a city that should have been wiped out or captured.

The AI does not seem to understand that capturing a city is much more valuable then to pillage the surroundings. It is the mistake that Hannibal made when he could have captured Rome (there were no more legions between him and Rome) but instead went around the city to pillage to the south which enabled Rome to recall sufficient legions and to defeat Hannibal. If Hannibal would have gone for Rome the world history would look very different...

I have seen the Ai's take out others before but not often. One game I played I saw the mongols conqure all but two Indian cities only to grind to a halt because of the Maintenance costs. A big part of the conqured teritory was un-improved junge so they were a mess. Easy pickings by me later on.

The ai's love to pillage and only take a city if they have a clear decisive advantage but they also stink at making decent stacks.

Sometimes I let my military lapse some while researching better units just to see them attack me and I repel it with the better units I am now able to build. It's a great way to get a war going you don't want to start yourself.

The Indians get conquered in nearly every game I play. Some people here claim they can be a powerhouse civ, but I never see it. They get wiped out before they ever get strong. Only a couple of times have I seen them develop into anything.

I rarely see AI's take out other AI's. When one AI attacks another, usually only one city gets destroyed/conquered before they sign a peace treaty
In all the games of Civ IV I've played, only3-4 times the AI's managed to take out another AI without my help

I would like to see more specialized AI's (randomized at startup), where a few AI's will work harder on building up military and attack the neighbors, while a few other AI's will work harder on being ahead in tech, and then some AI's will work harder to win another victory (like aiming for a culture victory). 30-50% of the AI's in a game should be standard AI's though, who's just trying to survive, not aiming for a specific victory

I have seen the Indians (always Asoka) become powerhouses in many games, but they never use their power (I don't believe I've ever played a game where the Indians decleared war on anyone, and because of their power nobody dares to attack them)
