  • Problem with Mercantalism

My problem is that the city wants the free speclist to be an enginier, but I what it to be an artist. So, I clicked the minus and it became a citizen. Next I click the plus sign next to the artist, but then a regular laborer becomes the artist. Anyone know how I can get the free specialist to become an artist?

That is a little annoying. After you do this:

So, I clicked the minus and it became a citizen. Next I click the plus sign next to the artist, but then a regular laborer becomes the artist.
Then just click on a terrain tile you want to work and the citizen will be put back on the land (and the artist will stay).

I will never be a great civ player, I for one let the AI place the specialists for me and for another probably will never want to fiddle with it anyway, I have such fun just playing that I can't stand the thought of reading up and experiementing enough to do it much better than the AI anyway.

I wonder if I'd do better in my games, if I were to pay attention to specialists? I think, in all my games, I've tweaked them once, to maximize culture for culture victory...
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Yes, proper specialist use is an important gameplay element in my view.

In SP they are useful in acheiving higher level victory against the AI, in network games they are useful to keep an eye on to ensure they aren't being wasted, in PBEM they are an integral part of any strategy that you wish to employ.
