    Most certainly!
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I love anybody who has the nerve to discuss slavery in the past tense.

        Moral Relativism at its best.

We're not talking about it in the past.

We're talking about the United States' and other countries' relations to slavery. Trust me, we are all aware that it is not dead yet.

But it is illegal, so there is nothing more we can do - don't gripe about it.

I just don't want to get off topic. I still gripe about sexual slavery. Even in the U.S. I've mentioned this in our countless prostitution threads in off-topic. . but I still argue that legalized prostitution does not promote sexual slavery.

But that being said, sex slaves are a problem even in the U.S. Hell even those damn mormon fundamentalists are essentually treating their women like slaves. Look at what's happening in Colorado City. Women are taken from their husbands, the husbands kicked out of the community, and the women are given to other men. Barbaric. . But that's another issue aside from the illegal prostitution business that is plaguing our nation.

And of course you still have slavery problems in africa and maybe a few other places. But the biggest issue in industrialized nations is sex slavery. Yes it is illegal, but more could still be done to combat it.

Forms of slavery also exist in asia.

The other problem is that many multi-nationals practise what effectively amounts to slavery in many third world countries.

Dis - legalising prostitution will only effect sex-slavery if the prostitution laws make it illegal for any non-citizens or non-residents to work in that proffession. And then the government has to actually enforce it.............

Slavery was useful: get the whip out and you will complete great things. Guess how those wonders got built.

It still is useful - to make shoes, handbags and golfclubs.

Slavery is not as bad as you would think, but maybe if someone would beat your pessimistic head in until you can gain some common sense that IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE, YOU JUST LOOK AT THE WORLD FROM A SCREWED UP POSITION.

Sure, it happens once in a while sporatically in random places, but it's not a global issue. Most 1st or 2nd world countries don't recognize it as a problem, because it isn't, and there is work being done on 3rd world countries as well.

Legalizing prostitution will make it ALOT more common EVERYWHERE, which means little kids will learn about the birds and the bees before they should, hell, they might even start hiring prostitutes themselves in their teens! You could give it an age restriction, but it would be worse than porn, infecting young children's minds until they think that Sex Slavery is okay. Then there is no way to stop it, because a tiny part of our economy is now based on PROSTITUTION.

surely you are joking. Legalizing prostitution will make it more common?

I can't speak for other countries, you only have to look at the state where I live. The areas where prostitution is legal have no problem with sexual slavery. Granted, those are rural areas, but my point still stands. But prostitution is illegal in the big cities such as Las Vegas. And we do have a huge problem with asian massage parlors. Although I haven't heard of any problems with slavery like in the big cities of New York, it wouldn't surprise me if they exist. Don't get me wrong, we could do a mayor Guiliani and clean up our town if we wanted to. We could close every adult business. But my point is we have a heavily regulated legal prositution business in my state. These girls aren't slaves.

Heh, you are denigrading one of my favorite tactics now. On Emperor level, poaching is actually quite risky because the AI is very unwilling to make peace with the player and starts the game with a huge stack of units. On Monarch and below it is a great way to cripple your neighbor and give yourself a boost with a free worker early on.

The funny thing about this tactic is that many human players also easily fall victim to worker poaching. In fact, many of them even leave cities and settlers completely unprotected, which is a mistake that the AI does not make. Often times, the AI on the lowly noble level will put up a better defense than some of the humans out there after those humans have quit out of the game.

BTW, sorry for dragging the thread sort of back onto topic, you may now resume the "America is teh SuxX04" posts.

What in the WORLD are you talking about? 1st and 2nd world countries simply don't CARE about slavery anymore because they are the ones getting the benefits of it.

As it has always been.. the rich are benefiting from the plight of the poor.

This isn't an ANTI-US thing, because the US has done more and paid more and been stigmatized more than ANY other country for it's role in slavery.

That, by the way, was exactly my point.

That people want to point to the US's rather SHORT (historically speaking) phase of utilizing slavery as a continual hammer to degrade the US, when slavery exists to this day and exists in numbers and use that exceed what occured during the time the US had legal slavery.

Slavery isn't 'illegal' in the vast majority of global nations, unless you are referring to 'international law', which is completely meaningless, and even then, I'm not sure there exists such an 'international law' that outlaws slavery.

Legalizing prostitution will make it ALOT more common EVERYWHERE,
I don't know what your problem with hookers is, but I assume you also have a problem with cocaine?

Remind me never to go to one of your parties.
