  • Basic XML Help

So what online resources are available through Apolyton help XML n00bs such as myself in editting the game? It looks like the Modwiki is still incomplete.

I want to edit units and I tried to start with editting the terrain range of the Caravel from only sea, to include ocean.

So I located the Unit Info XML file under Assets and then I went directly to the info regarding Caravel.

The thing is, I can't figure what part of the text is related to terrain range so that I can expand the Caravel's range to include ocean. Also, editting its cargo capacity and type would be nice too.

I tried using the modwiki resource here on Apolyton, but the Unit section is not created yet.

EDIT: I tried copying and pasting the XML text to show you guys what I'm talking about, but I guess you can't copy and past XML text.

The Caravel is just an example in my difficulty in locating the XML text I need to edit. For future reference, how do I locate the right text in XML documents when I want to edit anything else in particular?

First, I think this should be posted in the Creation and Files of Civ4, alot of those experienced modders will see it, maybe they'll be able to help more.
Second, I must not get what your saying, but can't Caravels travel in Ocean anyways?
Edit: to answer some one of your questions I forgot.

For future reference, how do I locate the right text in XML documents when I want to edit anything else in particular?
This is a hard question to answer, but just wander around, that is what I did, and that is how I learned where stuff was.(I know this wasn't too much help)
But, if you need to know where something is and need help, feel free to PM me anytime, as I have alot of free time.....
