GAH! I go through my Device Manager, then located my video card, and then tried to find some way to find out how many MB it has for memory but I don't know how to get that info. I double click on the video card for resource information and so on, but it doesn't include info on MB memory.

    Who can help me?

Your computer is better than an integrated graphics e-machine I sometimes run Civ4 on without issues (at high graphics quality), so you'll be fine.

Well, today I forked out the $50.00 for Civilization IV. Now, I will install it, then download and install the latest patch.

Thank you killo, but now I'm curious as to how many MB of memory my video card has even if it runs fine for Civilization IV.

I guess I still want to know how to find this out.

Most video cards on laptops don't have their own memory. They "borrow" memory from the system RAM. You might want to run the DXDIAG utility (Start, Run, DXDIAG) and look at the info on the Display tab.

Let me know if this isn't clear.

              Hey thanks, Petek.

I found the info following your instructions; apparently, my video card "borrows" 256 MB of memory.

You'll be alright. You might experience a bit of lag towards the end of the game, but that's not really unusual, and it won't be that severe. Plus I find that just quitting the game and restarting will clear it up. I'd avoid using any anti-aliasing though. It doesn't really add very much to the graphic quality and it will give you a big performance hit.

In fact, I don't see that much difference between Low and High resolution myself. I still keep it on Low even though my current video card can easily handle more, just to get better performance.

Have you tried to alt-tab into windows, wait a few sec, then back again? That usually works for me
This space is empty... or is it?

No I haven't actually. But by the time I start getting the lag, it's usually about time I took a break anyway, so it's not really an issue to quit and restart. It takes me hours before I really start to notice it.
