  • Representation/Pyramids nerfed?

I keep reading that this has happened with the new patch, but didn't weren't the old settings 3/3 and the settings are 2/6?

Isn't that a net gain of 3 happiness under the new patch, making representation and the pyramids more powerful?

Also.. what's up with the computer assigning specialists when you have the governor turned off?

That's incredibly annoying when trying to build a city pop only to find it stagnant because two specialists have been assigned when the AI isn't even supposed to be in controll of the city!

      Uhh.. Yeah.

I was wondering why the no other replies on this issue.

Has this already been discussed? If so, can you link me to the appropriate thread?

I read the PATCH thread and it doesn't seem to make much mention of other of these issues.

The suddenly assigning of specialists is really annoying, especially when you're trying to pop rush a library or observatory and your city isn't growing because specialists were assigned by a governor that isn't even supposed to be in control of anything!

      This didn't happen pre-patch.

The only time specialists were assigned was if you had the citizen automation box highlighted, or if you got a free one.

Now, it just happens? And with more than one? I had a city sitting stagnant because it had four scientist specialists on it and I didn't assign even the first one!

Is this only a problem for dearmad and myself?

If a city grows, the governor assigns the new citizen. If you don't want a specialist, emphasize food and chances are it'll work the fields.

You can also select all three priorities and the governor will rarely select a Specialist. At least not until all the squares in the city area are full.

I sure hope that Warlords has a button we can select to tell the governor not to create certain specialists. It's annoying trying to run a science city only to have all my Scientists reasigned as Engineers and Priests after a period of unhappiness.

Or maybe a dropdown on the focus on GPP that asks what kind you want.

Sure, and I've taken to doing that now. But that was something I never encountered prior to the last patch. So the question is: is the game broken after the patch, or was it broken prior to the patch?

Yep, definately another related problem. Its understandable that there would be some sort of difficulty in adding the specialist mechanic into the game, so I expect some growing pains in how in functions. But I'm rather surprised about the lack of uproar over it, especially in light of all the minor issues that many on these forums find hours to complain about.

Also curious, no response on the changes to Representation and the Pyramids? Didn't the revision actually make them even more powerful, or am I missing something?

Perhaps it's a side-effect of an improvement to the AI intended to cause it to make more effective use of specialists. I think the AI uses the same citizen-allocation algorithm that the human player defaults to.

I don't understand your question about the "changes". Representation used to give +3 happiness in your top N cities (N determined by the size of the map). Now it gives +2 happiness, still in N cities. I don't think it's "more powerful" in any way, but I could be missing something.

Ahh.. so it's an improvement to AI use of specialists that then gets in the humans way a bit? That makes sense.

Ahh, well that explains it. I guess I changed map sizes after the patch. Because I thought it was a fixed number of cities and I thought that number of cities was increased while the effect was decreased.

I guess I just went to a larger map and drew an incorrect conclusion. Thanks for clearing that up!
