  • Several Questions

I'm still a rookie at this game since I am unable to win the computer at Monarch difficulty. Keep in mind I also never do any save reloads... if something bad happens I take it. Also I disable tech trading.

I found a few small mods which are helpful such as the replanting forest mod and culture borders crossing ocean mod.

1 ) I searched and couldn't find any mods which add new futuristic technologies. I was looking for just the new futuristic technologies such as cybernetics, minaturized robotics, laser weapons, and other future technologies. I'm hoping veterans in the community would know where I might find one of these which doesn't include other modifications?

2 ) I searched and couldn't find any mods which improve barbarians as time progresses. For some reason barbarians don't improve as time progresses without a city. Any suggestions where I can find a mod so the barbarians can be improved as time progresses ?

3 ) I haven't found a way to edit or create a multiplayer map. Where can I find ways to make this work ?

4 ) I also would like to disable how airplanes can teleport across the ocean from an airport. I view this as wrong on many levels... if the feature is left in the game it should be some super advanced high research technology. How can I disable this Teleportation ??

Any help would be great !!

I believe the mods you ask for in the first two questions do not currently exist. You could easily allow the Barbarians to have more advanced units through XML, though, making their cities much stronger.

I can't imagine anyone depending upon saves to win a game. There would be zero challenge.

I completely agree... unfortunately I've seen this cheat suggested for many games in all different types of forums.

In fact this type of cheat appears to be the most popular for being accepted as not cheating.

It's technically not cheating, if done in single-player. But yeah, you'll generally see that people have very different attitudes towards that. I also never reload, except if I make a severe "technical mistake" - like declaring war on accident because I hit the wrong button.

Yes, only when I miskey something really bad. If it's just a move in the wrong direction or attack with a cat when I meant to bombard or such, I live with my stupidity. It is annoying to attack with the destroyer and lose it when you meant to choose the Battleship

But I will restart a game that looks to have minimum promise. I'm not good enough to use my limited time proving I can win with an awful start. Maybe when I get better.

On question 3, I believe you need to make a single player map first, go into world builder and change what you want to change then save it, reopen it as a multiplayer maps as a scenario.

Make sure the SP is set to noble so the AI doesn't get any benefits or penalties. Then in multiplayer set the difficulty to whatever you want

Hope that helps, but you can NOT get into worldbuilder in MP for obvious reasons

Thanks for answering some of the questions conmcb25 and Solver. I'll try the multiplayer map creating tip as well.

Perhaps my questions are more advanced than I thought... so I'll probably open a topic in the modding forum if no other answers appear.

I do not believe you can make MP maps because you can specify who get's what start you could cripple the other starts except yours and always win (like putting the other starts on Desert and yours in the middle of Flood Plains with a river).

But maybe, I've never really tried.

Well only a cheater would cripple other gamers and AIs before starting a game. Someone who wants to make a challenging and/or fair map for other gamers would love to setup a multiplayer map.

Hopefully it's possible to create multiplayer maps... I'll try again this weekend. Any other tips would be great for making this work.

I know but if you've played MP with a yahoo that spams archers and when it doesn't work quits the game... you'd understand.

In WorldBuilder or in the text file?

In the text file it is an IMPROVEMENT called IMPROVEMENT_GOODYHUT.

Well I was hoping the editor itself had a way to add goody huts... thanks for the tip on the text file.

I play multiplayer with friends and family so I never have to worry about someone quitting or cheating.
During a CIV_3 game I did have a nephew spam attack me during the early part of a game without any concern or effort for peace.... I eventually overpowered him and left him barely alive for the rest of the game as punishment.

In WorldBuilder they are in as "Improvements" Though, if you ask me, they are rather difficult to make out. Hover over some of the more essoteric icons and the tool tip should pop up.

Of course, you could always use WorldPainter (my map generator/Painter)

Turning off tech trading probably makes the game slightly easier at Noble or even Prince level. However, at Monarch level the AI gets a significant bonus to research relative to the human player. Really the only way to stay ahead in the tech race at all at this level is by leveraging trades, taking advantage of a monopoly on Alphabet, parlaying one new tech into four techs from various AI's etc.

I can routinely win on Monarch with tech trading enabled, but turing it off makes things far more difficult. I am not sure I would be able to win more than 25% of the time on Monarch without it.

Emperor still kicks my ass nearly every game, tech trading or not I almost won a cultural victory on emperor with Egypt the other day on an epic timer, but they launched a spaceship in 1860!! (I was about 15 turns out from cultural victory)
