Hey Mutax- that was a fun multiplayer game we had the other day. I have kicked some serious butt in the past with huge stacks of Cho Ko Nu, but I have more recently fallen in love with Egypt's War Chariots. These little babies are dirt cheap, and with their withdraw ability you can attack much stronger units than yourself and survive often enough to pull them down through sheer weight of numbers.

Macemen, spearmen, Horse Archers, crossbowmen, longbowmen can all be brought down by four or five of these cheap little UU's and you can produce tons of em in the early game. This is a great way to clear a continent of AI's or send human opponents packing early on (its been done to me plenty of times ) with a cheap to build Stack of Doom.

panzers. okay there are good arguments to be made against them. But I have never found the other UU's to be much of an improvement. Some games I never use a civ's uu at all.

And I'd like to know which UU is the worst. Jaguar comes to mind. Sure it has it's uses, but not enough of them.

The worst unique unit for me is the fast worker or the musketeer. Who needs extra movement? I used to love the fast worker, but then I realized that it really wasn't that good and I was just making excuses because I liked Ghandi traits. I can always just build a worker in a city that's not growing and that makes up for it. Think about. You rarely have more than 7 or 8 workers. With the fast worker that number drops to 6. Big deal.

7 or 8 workers? I usually have like 20 or so. I also tend to have a big army. I've never been India so I cannot comment on the fast worker.

I still really like the panzer. It is a great unit late in the game. for me, the AI is so close to me in tech that I need that late unit game to take territory. Once those CIV's build the Apollo Program, they must die.

Dis, I think you're going to find a number of people agreeing with you on the Jaguar, and another good number strongly disagreeing with you. Clearly, the advantage of the Jag is that it requires no resource, and that alone can be a major advantage in an era when everyone else is using 3-strength archers. Some of my otherwise-better games were hamstrung by lack of resources.

Bobby, I would strongly disagree with you about the musketeer. While I don't often play France, the musketeer's two moves makes it very handy. The main advantages of mounted units (besides elephants) are the two moves and to a lesser extent the withdrawal and promotion choices. In exchange, though, they get no defensive bonuses. The musketeer is effectively a mounted unit that isn't considered a mounted unit, so it has no real counter at that stage and it can actually defend a city meaningfully.

And fast workers might be the most pansy UU, but that doesn't mean they aren't useful. =p

I will have to say the best UU is the one that gives you the most advantage as early as possible. So it would be either the fast worker or the quecha.

I don't play with either, though.

I had twenty workers too when I used to play on Prince and had size 40 cities, but even with 20 it's still not that much of an advantage in my opinion.

I've had games where I never used my UU. Maybe I finished off an opponent just before I got the UU and then I had peace for a while until after the UU was obsolete. Or maybe I never got the resource for my UU.

My favourite UU is the fast worker, because you are guaranteed to use it. And you don't have to alter your strategy for it (unlike the Napoleon fans who build their whole game around getting Musketeers as early as possible.)

Skirskimmers, just requires archery and it's got 33% more attack then archers, and an extra possible first strike.

I find the Panzer best because that's usually when my army needs a boost the most. I'm too much of a builder to attack with early UUs.

                            which is very ironic.

China used to beat up Japanese all the way until recent century when they got temporarily out of shape.

Japan always had a knack for Korea, but was frustrated at least twice by the Chinese. Japan also got lucky when that Taifun wiped out the Chinese invasion fleet in 1284....

They hoped another "Godwind" (Kamikaze) would help them against us, but they were wrong.

For me, the top 5 UUs are:

                                1. Praetorians!
                                2. Cossacks
                                3. Fast Workers
                                4. Red Coats
                                5. Conquisdators
