How do you play Civilization_4 ?

Is there a way to replay a game someone else played? Like you used to be able to step through the events at least.

I'm looking for a way to hone my skills and was thinking of playing a demo game with some better players to see what the difference is in my decisions.

Not likely, he's usually stuck doing family things during our normal Sat. Night playing window. In the old days he used to try to get into II games late but now I suspect he's playin SP IV games to practice to suprise us later.

Do those Saturday games have a set start time? I would probably like to join you guys or play with other Apolyton players. After the pathetic showing that the random opponents showed last night ( I had the second place guy's score doubled by the time they gave up!), I would like some competition that consists of grown-ups with some level of skill.

Where's the option for "poorly"? I need that one.

I'm single player only; never been very good, and I don't have much time to commit to a game at any given time, so I wouldn't want to start in on something and then forget what I'm doing.

Single player only. I play to relax, I'm a builder, and I like longish games. I also enjoy having the ability to get up during a turn and do whatever else that needs doing (like gathering foodstuffs) and eventually proceeding with that turn. I'd be shot if I tried MP.

Really, though, some of you SP guys should try out PBEM or now Pitboss games. These are much different from standard MP. You don't get limits like 40 seconds per turn, these games are often full of diplomacy and building, not cutthroat like standard MP. The downside being, of course, that these games can take anywhere from several months to a couple of years to finish.

Not completely set, since they usually start when people finally show up

We like to start as early as possible but whenever. We usually like to start between 5-7 central 3-5 for use I'm guessing. Having ICQ helps, but post in the RAH sat game thread. I do check in there saturday afternoons to see if anyone is interested. (usually anyway)

I get up frequently during MP games. For smokes and grabbing beers and even bathroom runs. You can tell when you're going to have a real short turn and by giving orders the turn before I can run have a smoke come back advance through the next turn and still be waiting for other civs to finish. We also will take 3-5 minute breaks every so often for people to grab stuff. It need not be a blazing game, just fast enough so people don't get bored.

Rah, the difference is in that you're a veteran who has been playing Civ MP for what, 10 years now? You get into a random lobby game (90% chance of it being Blazing), and even on Blazing, if you take the full time allowed by the timer for a turn, you'll quickly upset other players, as somehow they'll be expecting the game to move at an ever faster pace :s.
