The newbie (but not only so) Guide to Civ4

I'm glad you liked my overview, which only touches on the subjects. The game works the way I have explained, but at the same time, at higher difficulty settings, things get a bit more complicated, where you need to balance your military development with cultural development.

Civ 4 really is a great game, as all but a few here will say. Warlords was a disappointment for many people, but I still feel it was worth the money. Beyond the Sword, now THAT is an expansion that will really do some great things for the base game. It may be better if you start with the base "vanilla" Civ 4 and then go Warlords first if you have the money to spend, or if you can get Warlords for a cheap price. Many have been looking for a package that has both Civ 4 and Warlords, or word if you can get a pack with Civ 4+Warlords+Beyond the Sword but to my knowledge, there isn't going to be a complete package for a while yet.

Ah well, I hope you pick up the game and find it as fun as most of us do. Being turn based really is great because you can take a moment here and there to deal with events in your life without needing to stare at the screen and hope you didn't miss anything the whole time.
