  • Free Religion bug?

I was playing my first winning match on the prince level when i saw this occur and wasnt sure if this was a new bug from the recent patch, or a known bug. I was playing the Persians and was at war with Washington as seen in the screenshot. When i had taken over half of their cities, Washington suddenly went into a relgiion. The issue is, The Inca's(before they were taken out), used the United Nations to put free religion and it passed. So how can washington go into a religion like it just did?

Later in game, Mansa did the same thing when i took half of his cities. With that said, i know in my previous matches, i've noticed civ's to change to a religion to their opponent to make peace, but in those cases, free religion wasnt passed and they had the right to do that, but in this game, these two civ's shouldnt of been able to do it.

    Or am i mistaken?

Had the UN city been razed? Not that I know that is SUPPOSED to affect UN resolutions. Check the UN Resolutions screen on the F8 to see if the res is still there.

Did they keep the religion for long? I think you revert to your old state religion when your civ has a revolution. Not sure if it happens when the UN resolution has been passed but possibly they were just changing civics.

UN definetely was not destroyed in this one. Though i did go into the game and pushed f8 and saw that the Free religion was not listed as passed anymore. I waited for the UN diplomacy to go through the process and the menu doesnt have it passed either. I was under the assumption, once it passes, it cannot be retracted. I tried to convert back to my original religion (buddhism), but it wouldnt allow me.

I checked the game on the civic change as well, and when i had taken this screenshot, Washington was definetely going under a religion change. I am playing on marathon, so i decided to play a few turns and found that after his transition was over, washington still had the religion after 5+ turns from his religion change. I had spies in his cities to check his production turn(s).

jorack, the only rationalization I can come up with is error on your part: that the Free Religion resolution did not succeed, though you thought it did.

Unless of course, it's a BUG!

Hehe i wish it were so

I took some more screenshots, both showing the civic page. Ones from 1877 (same screenshot year from the first post), and another from 30 game years before.

Yes, definitely looks like the game "misfiled" the Free Religion Resolution documents!
              A bit switched, without authorization.

Aren't they in anarchy? If so, during the anarchy it will show as if they still had their religion from the time preceding the Free Religion vote, since during anarchy you have none of the non-basic civics (including Free Religion).
The problem with leadership is inevitably: Who will play God?

The change of religion happend when washington was under civic change (anarchy). However washington kept the religion after the civic change and when he had normal production ability. During that anarchy period, he somehow reset the UN resolution free religion, cause i was able to switch religions, when i shouldnt of been able to and i was not under anarchy. The UN passed free religion about 100 game turns before this whole thing occured.

greenday_234: In this game, i was on the prince level. I'm a big fan in building big and industrialized empires, it is one of the "fun" aspects of civilization 1-4 for me. And it is also one of the main reasons why i've stayed around noble and recently prince difficulty. I've found the higher difficulty settings to be more difficult in maintaining multiple cities. Specially in the early portion of the game where im usually the most weakest (playstyle wise). Im slowly getting better in the early game though, i tend to neglect the military early on and keeping a balanced economy. Ironically, in this map i was on, my starting city was surrounded by 4 civs in close proximity. I only had 3 cities of my own, rest were captured cities, either by culture or war.
