    I've seen a couple responses where people are talking about how much taxes they are charging. What are they talking about?

    In Civ 4, taxes = 100% minus your science, culture and luxury sliders.

        Ie: "Taxes" are in fact the percentage of your national income that you allocate to your treasury. Not the actual taxes that your populace suposedly is paying. Much like in the other civ games

          I remember in my first few games of Civ 1, I had no idea either. I thought taxes worked like in Sim City, so when my cities became unhappy, I would lower taxes, and say to myself "There, that should make them happy"

                  I used to interpret the Luxuries Rate as a tax cut or lowering taxes.
