  • A curious thing with garrisons and happiness

Due to some entertaining barbarian wars my capital was left undefended. As it grew, it started to riot.

A friendly Incan set of archers passed through town and the people stopped rioting, happy they had protection. I thought that was pretty cool.

I wouldn't a guessed. Tangent: You can base your planes in any country who you've got open borders with. What happens when country A & B (who are at war) both have open borders with C (who is neutral) and both try to base planes in a specific city of country C. My guess is nothing, but I've never seen it and I think it could conceivably happen.

Yes, you can base your planes in foreign cities with open borders, but beware! I once lost five bombers that I had rebased to an English city because I did not also have a ground unit in that city. A nation I was at war with also had open borders with the English, and killed my poor bombers by walking one of their units into the city. The presence of English soldiers made no difference as they cravenly stood back and watched my enemy trash my poor defenseless bombers

The same thing happenned to me. I also lost uniits when an enemy Battleship sailed into a foreign (open borders) port city in which I had stacked aircraft. This was with the December patch - so not sure if it still applies. But probably does. In my case I may have needed a naval unit instead of a ground unit - not sure which .
