  • Warlords Expansion New Traits

I think I have summarised this correctly from the E3 IGN article:

    Charismatic trait.
    +2 happiness
25% reduction in the cost of unit promotions.
    double production Broadcast Towers

    Protective trait.
Artillery and archer have Drill I and Drill II promotions.
    Double production walls and castles

    Imperialistic trait.
100% increase in Great General emergence
25% production boost when creating settlers.

They sound really interesting. It's going to be especially interesting to work out how those will mix with some existing traits. Churchill being Charismatic Protective, 2 new traits, will be interesting. That should make it interesting for early war mongering.

Anyway, what do you lot think?

Aggressive Protective would be an interesting combo, if it's not a contradiction.

I really like Hannibal's combo (financial / charismatic)
Fin is my favorite trait and the extra money combined with 25% cost reduction in promotions is great.

+2 happiness is also nice... for whipping

Charismatic/Aggressive would make a great combination for militaristic players. You could get a melee or a gunpowder unit that gets free combat I, then two additional promotions if you have a barracks. Or if you have a barracks and west point that free combat I and three additional promotions.

Charismatic is a nice rounded trait, but I can't help but feel that the different abilities of Protective and Imperialistic could be rolled into existing traits.

I suppose my opinion will change if it turns out that offensive wars are more profitable. Different kinds of war traits would be quite welcome then.

Imagine Protective with Barracks and Vassalage. Drill 4 longbowmen would be a decent offensive unit, right? What would it be, 5-7 first strikes?

First strikes only really matter if your unit has comparable strength to the other unit. Sure, Drill IV longbows will be very formidable offensive units, but against a unit such as Cover-promoted Macemen, the first strikes would mean very little.

What is Genghis going to become, now that Shaka is Aggressive/Expansive? Definitely not Charismatic. Expansive/Protective perhaps?

Genghis protective? How is that fitting? Protective is appropriate for isolationist civs, or civs that are famed for their defensive actions somehow... Genghis hardly was a defender.

Well, he wasn't imperialistic, charismatic, philosophical, industrious, creative, spiritual or organized either...

Seriously, you are gonna go with GK was not imperialistic?!?! All he did was create the largest empire that the world has ever seen.

Also, we know from the Scenario that has been announced regarding him that he is gonna have a special settler unit (in the Scenario), meaning that the bonus to producing settlers would fit right in with the new Firaxis image of him.

Yep. Creating a huge empire quite certainly means you could describe the guy as imperialistic.

OK... I think Solver just told us something we should not know yet.

                      Genghis is agg / imp

Care to tell what traits i.e. Ragnar gets?

Not the kind of empire one would associate with "imperialism."

Seeing how LordShiva just eliminated ALL the other traits, I don't see how we could NOT know.

Given a choice between "yes" and "no" you're bound to be right 50% of the time.

I was just making the point that Imperialistic fits Genghis more than the other traits, sure he's not organized or spiritual, but I have no idea who this "Ragnar" is .

I absolutely love the Vassal States idea. That brings a really awesome element into the game, strategically.
