  • Civ4 on the next-gen?

What do you say, would it be feasible, econimically and technically, to have a port of Civ4 on X360, PS3 or/and Revolution? There was Civ2 for PSX, and Civ for SNES, but those always were a bit clunky...

Could the basic 360 controller work well for Civ4?

And would people buy such a "boring" game for their new machines?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Admittedly, I can't see it working properly. I CAN see greedy publishers wanting a console port. However, Civ games are, well, very PC. I am an anti-console person anyway, but even my subjective dislikes aside, I can not see how Civ4 could be playable with anything other than a keyboard and a mouse. I routinely use a crapload of hotkeys, that's just not feasible for consoles.

Next, consoles such as the Xbox 360 normally focus on, well, a different sort of games. Games with top-of-the-line graphics, which Civ4 isn't, and games of different genres. I just can't see console Civ4 being a good idea.

CivII on the PS was so slow it was unbelievable - however if it was the only Civ you get at the time............

It wouldn't surprise me if it did make it to a console platform.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Unless they make an console with a keyboard + mouse, playing Civ IV on it would be torture

Oh, and the console marked is mostly for those gamers who wants lots of fast action, without the need to consider what would be best to do next
This space is empty... or is it?

Then again, what's really the point of a console with a keyboard + mouse interface? From what I gather, the very point of consoles is simpler controllers, and a connection to TV for best graphics. Simple controllers won't work for Civ4, and it doesn't exactly have the sort of graphics that you'd want HDTV for.

Don't all the next gen consoles have USB ports that could take keyboards/mice anyway? I knew we'd see the "console users only like simple games/fast action" argument/snobbery which is crazy considering the sales of Final Fantasy games etc. People buy football management games on consoles, they'd buy CivIV.

              Can't see it happening though.

Exactly. If Football Manager sells for the 360, Civ4 should as well. I would love to see it simply because the 360 could handle the graphics and run the game much faster than my comp. Also it would be nice to play on a big screen HDTV. Plus, you would still be able to have all the downloadable stuff you want.

I would still use a mouse and keyboard, but the 360 controller would work. Obviously the any typing you want to do would be a pain. But honestly I don't think I've ever changed a city name or unit name in civ4. Obviously it would be worse playing on a 360 controller, but it could be done reasonable well.

Ah, a console would rule. I have a mac at school ( PC at home for civ... keeps me from failing out) but I won't be able to hold out from civ much longer, and a console would save me money (not to mention face) over getting a PC.
