  • Production in city square

Is the production in the city square always 2/1/1 in Civ4, or do certain things increase it (besides Golden Ages)? What things and in what way? I know that in Civ3 any commerce bonus on the underlying tile was passed up to the city, but I have not seen this in Civ4.

No.There is exceptions from terrain (some hills, ivory and others); the effect is permanent.

The best terrain to build on is a plains/hill square, this square gives 2 hammers production, not 1. This is particularly advantageous for those who use a worker or settler first strategy, because it ges that worker/settler built 20% quicker, a major boost in th early game.

City tile will be 2-1-1 with any particular field being raised if the base tile is higher in that field. The exception is floodplains and oasis which are 2-1-1.

Plains Hill, copper on grassland hill, elephants on plains etc give +2 hammers.
Copper on Plains Hill, stone on Plains Hill etc gives +3 hammers.
Rice on grassland, sugar on grassland etc give +3 food.
Furs on river, gems on river etc give +2 commerce (+3 for Financial).
Gold on plains hill on river gives +2 hammers +2 commerce...

I presume that any forest/jungle on the tile is considered to have been removed?
