First thing I'd say is lay off the sugar and caffeine. That post was painful to read.

Unless you need to look at the trade information, I'd say you're better off just clicking on the leader names in the score list. If you don't like that, use Shift-D to talk to a leader

dearmad, if the F4 was set up the way you were asking, how often would people be complaining that it should NOT reopen automatically?

Some times one dialogue is all we're after. Other times we want to do several. To TELL the F4 ahead of time would require another keystroke anyway, or at least a modifier key.
So, until the computer/software can read our minds, is it really that difficult to press F4 again?

BTW Sabretooth, I agree regarding the sugar -- it's bad for the system (because I'm not a sweet eater). But caffeine is way COOL (as long as you consume more than your system has adjusted to).

It's easier to click close the window when you're done than to have to reopen it 16 times to talk to variuos people, compare deals, etc... before you settle on something.

It used to work this way I thought- it stayed open until you closed it.

Sugar... yeah... lay off sugar... right.

One of the (all too) few nice things about the galciv 2 UI is that in the diplomacy screen you can cycle through talking to the leaders without exiting the dialog screen (there's right and left arrows that let you go from "portrait" to "portrait"). It would've been nice to see something like that here, as I can sympathize with the original poster - that *is* pretty annoying when you want to talk with ALL the civs in a big game.

It's classic Windows UI design - if you didn't open the window, don't close it. That just makes it hard for the user to understand what closed the window and why.

If the user specifically opened a window it should not close automatically.

I will agree with the Original Poster in everything but style of prose. It is most annoying to have the diplomacy window close without being told. If I want to talk to the other leaders one at a time, I know how to use the right click method. If I am doing negotiations with several leaders or seeing what I can get for my world map, or checking who would be willing to go to war with me, the diplomacy window should stay open until I complete my business.

Who told Firaxis they could close my diplomacy window for me? I didn't give them permission; that's for sure.
                If you aren't confused,
                You don't understand.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggie" until you can find a rock.

I forget who the quote is attributed to.

Sure, but the spirit of the quote implies that sometimes the "doggie" has a bigger rock, or even worse, has discovered "Paper" and the things that come with it while you're still banging rocks together.
