  • quick noob question about rally points

I apologize for the very very noob question which I am quite positive someone has answered 8 million times somewhere, but

I cannot locate any information about rally points for production, and I fear it does not exist. could someone confirm this for me. I just got back into playing civ4 (thanks to wow) and I havent been able to find any information at all about this.

    Thank you.

Select City (or Shift-select several cities, etc.)
Shift-RightClick on Rally Point. A yellow circle about the size of the tile will appear at the RP.

Personally, I then draw a sign (Alt-S) saying "(cityname) RP" so I know where they're going.

Does this really work for everyone? I can't get military units to go the rally point. Just workers and settlers, which doesn't help much.

I had issues with ground rally points not working for military units last game; don't yet know for my current one. Missionaries use them, I know.

EDIT: No joy with military using rally points in my current game either.

Rally points work fine with military units for me.

If the unit is built just before setting the rally point - you still have to move that unit yourself.

I have sometimes had a problem setting the rally point when a unit is active in that city. If I move that unit first and then go back to the city - it works fine.

Harrier, you are patched to v1.61, correct?
My rally point circle appears, but subsequent turn military production stays in the city.

I am using the Regiments v03 Mod (supposedly modifies graphics only), and have tampered with difficulty level parameters (HandicapInfo.xml).

I've discovered that rally points work fine until a barracks is built in the city. I had automatic promotions clicked in the options. After turning that off, the rally points work fine. Plus, you have a lot more control with choosing promotions. All is well!

If you're going to have that checked, you might as well just not promote your units, if you ask me.

As far as rally points not working when that's checked, it makes sense. Unit orders are typically cancelled when you promote them, aren't they?

I'll have to check that about the auto promotions hampering Rally Points, because ...
YES, I DO have them turned on. Having INTELLIGENT (player-determined) promotions is yet another advantage over the AI. Since I play NOBLE difficulty (modified to have SOME Monarch aspects), I have to give the AI a break somewhere!

Sabretooth, autopromotions aren't terribly bad. Only Archery types, Riflemen & Infantry are likely to be limited to City Garrison. For that I upgrade as many offensive-minded melee and grenadier units to provide offensive punch.

EDIT: After turning auto promotes off, Rally Points worked fine. BUG!
Sob ... I have no automatic rally points because I want the unpredictability of auto promotes.

Yes using v1.61 - I have no mods installed.

I uninstalled the old version then did a clean install of 1.00 and the patch.

                      Edit:

I see you have solved the problem.

Poorly worded, my good man. Solved the MYSTERY, yes; Firaxis will have to solve the problem.
