Hmmm. You have a very good point there. Now that I think about it again, the AI is not so good at spreading religions*. So I can afford to wait until Confucianism, especially if I use the Oracle for it, and still spread it well and get a Conf ally or two. This will allow me to get the economical techs like AH, BW and Pottery much earlier.

No more Hindu empires for me for the time being.

Worker first with the techs required to improve the best food squares first priority as well. My goal is to get the city to size4 - 5 as quick as possible, therefore once settler is built city usually builds warriors until it reaches that size with best food squares only worked at all times. Once it gets to size 4-5, then the capital only builds workers and settlers until I have about 4 of each. The newly founded cities build units, libraries, barracks etc in this phase. I find this gets me off to a powerful economy quickly, and then I think about religions. As well as food techs, Bronze working and pottery is prioritsed.
