  • Help getting low res movies?

Anyone have any ideas how to get the low res movies without downloading them?

I'm on dial up, average about 26 kbs - so it would take about 4 days to download them!

To make things worse I have download caps - so I would be disconnected before I get the whole file!

    Damned NZ Telecom!!!

Any ideas would be appreciated (apart from suggesting upgrading to broadband - I am pretty sure that the Dutch accountant wife would not be agreeable )
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Well, only option would be resizing the movies yourself, but the format is some crappy unsupported something, so I would not bet on it...

I'm not sure what they are good for, anyway.

Of course, you could ask another kiwi on these boards to burn them on a CD and send them to you, for a modest fee...

(If that NZ means New Zealand. ) But if you wife is dutch...
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Yep NZ means New Zealand. And I am in NZ.

And my wife is dutch, and an accountant (a scary combination at times).

If there is a kiwi out there that can help - it would be greatly appreciated

          Thanks Nikolai.

I mean - I know I could always turn them off, and all.

However it would be nice to actually see the one near the end of the game!

Oh - and seeing a victory movie would be nice (not that I actually win very often )

Get yourself a download manager. If you don't get it the first time, the program will resume later until you get the file. Sorry but I can't remember any names, I've had broadband for quite some time.

I think I used a manager called GetRight when I had ISDN(somewhere around the start of this millennium )

And? Does she consider live in NZ "cheap"?

                    People still use dial up?

Try to do a search on download managers, there's plenty of them. I've never tried GetRight, but I've heard it mentioned many times, so I guess it's one of the best around

But if you just want to see the videos, you could try to get bink tools, then open the video files in that player instead... I believe that's the player needed to play the files
This space is empty... or is it?

With the cost of broadband here - yep lots of us still use dial up.

Thanks for the advise everyone - I will see what I can find!

                        Thanks

Is it really that expensive? How much does it cost? Here in Norway the prices are quite good, from some 25 USD or something and upwards per month.

It's not just the straight out cost, it is the comparative speed to international standards, there are data caps - its just a mess really.

In fact it is so so bad that the NZ govt has announced that they are stripping NZ Telecom of their monopoly over the local loop - so who knows things may improve over time

Personally, I would only use the low res movies as a final act of desperation. I've seen 'em and they looked mighty blurry to me. They were so bad, IMO, that I would turn 'em off instead and count my self the better off for it.
