  • I decided to continue with my start and, embarassingly, forgot to save at 1000AD, so here's the 1010 save:



    I'm going to play on until 1500 then take a shot at kicking HC off MDBill's island.

      Don't forget that you have to stop just short of a domination victory and build a spaceship.

      I think in this case I've screwed myself by failing to get contact with the other civs (I need to write "SCOUT YOU FOOL" over my monitor or something) so my launch time is going to suck, unless my high WFYABTA limit allows me to catch up by trading.

      On the other hand fighting this war with all of it's logistical challenges is quite interesting. My plan in short is to double or triple my territory holdings then launch.

      As of 1010AD (I forgot to save at 1000AD too) I've captured the Incan capital... which was not easy. And STILL havn't made contact with anyone other than Capac and Washington.

      edit: Playing on a bit, I have to say gogo high WFYABTA limit!

      • Well I rolled onto 1505AD (d'oh) without any trouble. HC is attacking GW (again) which could be curtains for the Americans. I'll have to try to gift GW some stuff to even up the fight a bit, as I fear I'm next on the Incan hitlist.

        RJM - if you're interested, Pharsalos is pop-rush city that's illustrates the advantages of slavery.



        Nice to see Blake going the AGG route. If it manages to yield Alu and there's none on our island then maybe it will pay out, despite the challenging logistics.

        • I've played on to 1500AD.

          Once I made contact with everyone else i quite easily traded my way to near parity, fortunately a few (like hatty) were just backwards enough that I could trade Guilds.

          I'm now forging (bad pun) ahead to Steel. I've started trading chemistry around to those who are not on my immediate victim list.

          I'm using the philo trait and low number of GP's generated so far to start cranking out great merchants (1 every ~15 turns), which are funding my research and in 1500AD I just spawned Marco Polo, he will fund a mass upgrade to Cannons.

          Once I have Cannons I'll finish off Capac (he still has most his cities but I’ve broken his back, I’d finish him off now except it’ll go so much smoother with Cannons). Then I’ll probably kill Washington, mostly because his culture will pressure the incan cities too much.
          At that point I'll probably consolidate and launch.

            Well, I've finished this sub-game. Strategically, I took a different approach from MDBill's. Poprushed Oxford and switch to Liberalism for an Astro grab (control the seas). Done in 1050 and switched to Military Tradition (for Cav).

            DoW in 1070, when I GE'd Taj to boost the war effort (the other GE is being saved for Space Elevator). Took Ica in the same turn, and Andawotsit the next (thanks to some lucky Catapults). By 1180 Capac was off our island for the loss of 3 units (2 cats and a caravel).

            Made peace in 1200: delayed in order to put a settler in the SW clams/mountains spot. By 1500, I had 823 Beakers at 90% and was 6 turns from Radio - uncannily similar to my own game (1505: 857b / 100% / Radio in 4).

                Played it out and launched in 1914. Hampered by poor production and a lack of Alu which cost me a research-slowing amount of cash to import. No coal for me either.

                Propped up GW in his war with Inca (gifted Iron after his was pillaged). Peace was eventually made with, IIRC, only 1 city taken by Capac. I'll be needing the American later to take the heat off me...

                Trailing badly in the arms race, I was looking without luck for a Defensive Pact, so by the mid 1700s I decided to bribe Victoria into declaring war on Hatty. She'd have gone after Inca or the Americans, but Capac was upset enough with me and Washington was too weak.

                After a fairly lengthy war, Victoria made peace so I decided to bribe her into attacking America. As time went by, both Peter and Capac joined in, but by this stage I was confident of launching first.

                Space Elevator could only be built in 1-hammer Pharsalos which was not amusing, and, having kept most of my forest, I chopped my way to completion, using USUF and State Property for production bonuses in the 'home straight'.
