I usually play a continents map in civ4 however the maps always come out the same, (6 large rectangles) and exactly the same distance apart I'm looking for a map script that will generate totally random continent shapes and distances so that I will actually have to explore to find other countries. Also I want the map script to keep the same dimensions as the vanilla civ. Does anyone know of such a script in existence?

Hmm, what 6 large rectangles? The Continents script is supposed to generate random continent shapes and even a random number of continents, but with a large rift between two continents - if there are more than two, than the center rift will be the biggest.

The Fractal map script is pretty much the same, only it doesn't have the rift necessarily - so it might generate two continents that are close by or three in the opposite ends...Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

the only complaint I have is the continents may be too balanced for competitive play. And not be like real earth is. The truth is, some continents are just better than others. . .

I think my next game will be on an earth map. I just like earth. It's a pretty cool planet.

Yes, there is no script producing an Earth-like map. Fractal/Continents produces the continents pretty well, but no/few islands. An Earth-like map script would produce those and a mixture of various islands, like what the Archipelago script can produce.

If anyone wants to play around with Python and map scripts, trying to get something like that would be a good objective .

I actually just looked on the thread for tectonics, it looks really cool, I will definately give that one a shot. I don't know, I guess the vanilla civ 4 continents script always just seemed generic to me.As long as people believe in absurdities they will continue to commit
 atrocities.

 Re: Looking for natural Continents

It sounds like you're using the custom continents option. I didn't like those either, they come out too blocky. Try just using the default continents option, I find they come out better, more natural. Of course you won't end up with that many landmasses.Originally posted by greenday_234
