Can't load saves from one PC to another

Up until now I have been able to play a game on either my notebook (laptop) or my older desktop PC simply by saving a game onto a floppy disc and then loading it on the other PC. Until I installed the latest patch - 1.52. Now when I try to load a game I have been playing for a while on one PC onto the other I get the following message.

"The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed."

When I click on "OK" the game shuts down.


Note: At first I thought it was because I had selected "No Cheating" option. But then I tried it with a game with all options on default. The same happened.
I tried loading a newly started game from one PC to the other and it worked. However once the game is into a few turns we have the same problem.

Since this never happenned prior to installing the 152 patch I'd assume it's connected to this.

Is this happenning to anyone else?

Is there a solution to this?

Do your computers use different file systems?

Even if "no cheating" is turned off, this might be the cause of your error.

The thing is, it wasn't an issue until I installed the v1.52 patch.
And as I mentioned above it doesn't happen during the first couple of turns.
I have Windows XP on my notebook & Windows 98 (I know Windows 98 isn't mentioned on the Supported OS, but hey...) on my old desktop PC.

Windows 98/ME uses the FAT32 file formatting system, while Windows 2000/XP uses NTFS (NT File System). NTFS can read FAT32 files, but a FAT32 system can not read NTFS files.

Should the used file system really matter? The default file system for floppy discs is still FAT. The contents of the file should be the same, regardless of the file system used. You can't use an NTFS formatted harddisk in a FAT32-based OS, but i see no reason why a file from NTFS couldn't be copied to a FAT32 system. If you can copy to file to both PCs, then i highly doubt that the difference in file system is causing the problem.

Looking at the patch history, the following might be what's causing your problem:

- Games protected by admin passwords (only) cannot be loaded if the version is different from the one that created the save

That particular thing was added in the 1.09 patch.

Is your game protected by any password?
When you started the game, did you have patch 1.52 installed?
If not, when you start a new game under 1.52, can that game be played on both PCs?
