I may have 5 relgions, and I did found the 6th. And I knew Montezuma was going to come after my ass, but I did not expect Alexander to turn on me at +8 feelings.

I was not happy to see Alexander open borders with Montezuma, but I didn't expect him to turn on me so suddenly.

I stopped playing because I knew I was going to be struggling to hold all my cities. War just is not much fun for me, but I'm forced into it. I'll pick it back up another time.

I should have bribed Alexander to attack Isabella when I had the chance. I really wanted to bribe him to attack Montezuma again (I had done so once) and was hoping I'd have the option again.

I have a lot more military than Alexander, but still a little less than Montezuma. But I also have a lot more territory to cover than Alexander. And fighting the both of them together is not going to be fun. I'm taking a break from this game.

Four cities churning out Swordsmen or even Macemen does not seem like enough.

6 religions is not going to win the game for me, and if anything, I think I'm in over my head now.

That's why I love Alexander. He's as psychopathic as I am.

Do Alex and Monty form a unified front with you? If it's not on 2 sides, it's quite doable still.

Pick one to focus on, take a city or two while playing defense back home, and they'll ask for peace. War is unavoidable in this game. Best get used to it.

Any of the Aggresive civs can turn on you, that's part of their nature. Adjust your strategy accordingly and expect trouble if any of them are your neighbours. Same with Isabella if your religion is different than hers.

Alexander is my only neighbor. Montezuma is on the other side of him. I had set myself up for a peaceful cultural aggression against Alexander, which is why I'm doubly upset about this. My wonders are on his border.

And he's not a good expander, he doesn't have that many cities.

I even took the time to spread Hinduism to all his cities, so he'd never stray.

And I know this is silly, but I actually like the guy.

Why Alexander, Why??? Just because Monty told you to? From +8 or +9 to WAR.

I don't think all the Aggessive civs are like that.

I don't think Tokugawa in the same situation would have turned on me at +8 and with more military than he. Even with Montezuma cajoling him.

I wonder if the computer put me on the same landmass with the three loonies (and lots of tasty resources) on purpose. As in... "okay buddy, I'll put you in paradise, but you have to share it with two psychopaths and a religious zealot."

I should have known not to put any trust whatsoever in Alexander. And I certainly shouldn't have expected him to stand there and be my little culture victim like Cyrus was in my last game.

I wouldn't count on it if I were you. It's best to expect the worse whenever you're near an Aggressive civ, that way you'll never be surprised. One thing I've noticed about Tokugawa, when he is at war he doesn't give up easily. He's kind of like a bulldog that doesn't like to let go once he's taken a bite out of you.

Tok is a xenophobe. I don't think I've ever been able to have him as a friendly neighbor. He won't open borders, and while not as psychotic as Monty, has declared war. However, IMO the most psychotic I've found is Louis. I've come to count on a war with Monty, Napoleon, or Alex if I'm near them. The same applies to Isabella if her religion is different than mine. But Louis has declared war on me while he was getting his butt kicked by another AI, for no reason I could discern.

I haven't really experienced Tokugawa on Noble yet, but on Warlord he was a perfect gentleman. He was the only one who backed my diplomatic victory votes consistently. He made war with the other AIs, but he was always good to me.

Now, I'm sure it was important for me to be strong in military, and have the same religion... and you know, I also always do his favorite civic, mercantilism. Its my favorite civic too. That probably matters a great deal to him too.

Oh, this doesn't involve war, but about Louis being psychotic. He's asking me to convert to Judaism. Makes some snide remark about religious wars being terrible and unpleasant.

Of course, I refuse.

The next turn he converts to Confucianism!

Now, I suppose this could make some sense. Maybe he just didn't want to be lonely, but I suspect he would have switched anyway. In a previous game, Elizabeth did something similar.

I suppose its like real life, people just looking for an excuse to hate you, even if it doesn't make sense.

Culturally oppressing AI's make them mad as rattlesnakes. The other day I had Asoka sneak attack me in the BC's for my cultural transgressions, Asoka!

On Warlord, Cyrus's opinion of me didn't budge a bit, other than "close borders spark tension -2". And I converted two of his cities culturally, and was infringing a third city -- that contained his oil!

He never attacked me.

Ouch. With wonders in your border cities it would be painful to trade space for time. If you can hit Alex hard and fast, burning a city or two, you may be able to get him out of the war temporarily...or you could even hold them long enough for Monty to capture them from you, then *you* can sue for peace leaving those cities sandwiched between your culture and Alex's.

Any Civ that isn't Friendly is a potential enemy.

I'm sure you can hold the pair of them off - with all those religions 'belief' shouldn't be a problem!

Get your cats to hammer the stacks and pick off some units. Unless the AI is coming at you with massively superior units, you should be able to hold your own.

That's my point: Alexander even WAS friendly. He was friggin net +8. He was even still showing friendly the first turn he declared war on me (the -6 for "this war spoils our relationship" didn't take effect until the next turn. I was shocked. He really is a psychopath.

I need to make better use of cats. But I need more infantry too! I actually don't have any cats yet. Arg!

Its definitely Monty that is the threat. After an initial unsuccessful attack on one city, Alexander did nothing for several turns before I put the game down. Monty kept coming at me incessantly.

Cats are great value. A 'must-have' unit for any strategy.
