Think of it as a challenge. Civ 4 seems to love giving me awful starting locals in barren environments with tight borders while my enemies get ideal conditions. I try to make the best of it, but sometimes there really is nothing you can do but start over.

I've had some pretty bad starting positions but not any quite as bad as that. I usaually start a new game when I get something really bad.

I'd start over if I were you. It's not worth it to give yourself a headache over a game.

Well, since it's only part of you island, simply settle the rest first and take that juicy spot with 2 resources and 2 forests in it.

That's like saying pirate civilization failed the test of time - viking refers to the Norse sea raiders from a specific time period and should not be used as a name for a civilization. Their culture has been very successful, the Swedes were one of the stronger European powers in the 17th century, and the Scandinavian countries today still have a very distinct Nordic culture with a direct tie to the era of the vikings. One could make a strong case that modern Russia is a descendant of Norse civilizations (a Norse prince formed the first East Slavic state). The Normans helped the French actually win some battles. I'd say the civilization of the Vikings is pretty well qualified to be included.

It appears you had some barbarian trouble? I'm looking at the city ruins, of course

I had barbarian trouble obviously. Although later they turned out to be nice sparring partners for my axemen. The first barbarian axeman was a shock however, I had only warriors at that moment and had to use slavery to get me some axemen. I mean they should come with archers first

Those ruins however are the remains of rogue AI cities.
