  • Extra Huge

I just got another stick of RAM (Now 2GB) and I was wondering, if there was a way to get larger then Huge Maps. I usaually play on Terra if that is nessissary.

It has more to do than just having more RAM, your processor and video card also have to be up to the task. The only thing you can do is try it and see if it works.

I have a 7800GT and a 4400+ (spent a lot upgrading) I'm sure it can handle larger maps. But I am asking how can I make larger then huge maps.

You need to edit CIV4WorldInfo.xml. It's found in Assets/XML/GameInfo

Is it possible to create a whole new size, like I have all the orginal sizes, but I add Gigantic?

I doubt it, the game only recognizes so many sizes and there's no custom option. You'll just have to change the default sizes of one of the existing ones. Be sure to copy the file over to your Custom Assets and make the changes there.

              Custom assets?

I'm confused, I understand how to edit it, but I don't know what else to do... (I backed up the orginal XML files so if something goes corrupt I can just change it)

There are several mods that add larger map sizes, including some that would require a LOT more than 2 GB of RAM. It's also pretty easy to mod map sizes yourself. Check out the Creation and Files forum.

How much more could it require, I'm only using about 400 meg for the OS, so that leaves 1.6GB for the game, the most you could possibly use would be 2GB for the game.

Anyway, I've figured it out I think.
                  PHP Code:
                  <iGridHeight>40</iGridHeight><iGridWidth>64</iGridWidth
                  Those lines right?

Whats the point of having a map larger than you can conquer, however? Conquering a Standard Pangaea with 10 civs is hard enough...

To make it hard to conquer, it basically adds diffculty to the game, and makes it more realistic. In real life no 1 country can really take over Earth.

Usaually I'm playing with 12 civilizations anyway.

I appear to have had some luck on map sizes I have a
                        ATI Radeon 9550
                        1.6GHz AMD
                        1256MB of DDR Ram

None of which is awesome by todays standards. However my computer runs huge maps almost seemlessly even though I've heard so many say the opposite. so best advice, make it big and try it.

The amount of memory needed goes up with the area of the map, so a map that's 60x48 uses four times as much RAM as a 30x24, and some of the larger map sizes I've seen in mods would require a lot more than 2GB of RAM. I think one of them says it will only play properly with 10GB or so.
