anarchy and the build queue

When I'm in anarchy, can I skip turns on the city build queues? According to the manual, hitting SPACE should skip turn; instead it acts like I clicked on the highlighted item, and I end up building some useless thing that takes forever.

You don't skip turns while in city view. And in map view, Space only applies to skipping the turn of a unit. The only commands for skipping the turn are Enter and Shift-Enter when in map view.

So basically I'm stuck building something whether I want to or not? Man, that makes one turn of anarchy pretty costly in a tight game.

While you are in anarchy you build nothing.

I got the impression that you still get at least one hammer in anarchy. When you capture a city, the period of resistance can be used to start building so that you can at least rush-build once the city has settled down.

What you don't seem to be able to do is part build several buildings ready for the pop-rushing.

I'm not sure about the "one hammer even during anarchy" bit, but I have found that if you rush an item in production before anarchy (say you rush it, then switch religion or civics) you'll finish it during the anarchy.

you can finish a building/unit as if it was going to finish the turn you go into anarchy.

you can add newitems to the build queue or delete said items

how ever what it won't do is add any hammers to what your are building
