  • Cool, I should soon be playing Huge maps!

Just waiting for my income tax cheque to get processed after which I'll be getting myself a new motherboard and an AMD 3500+ processor. I'll be smokin'.

It rather sucks though, the motherboard I have now I only got last year, but there's no longer any processors available for them. Computer gear gets obsolete so quickly.

Hopefully my Radeon 9550 will be up to the task. A system is only as good as it's weakest link after all. If I leave the graphic settings on low it should be alright. Won't it? I'll have to wait until later this year to upgrade that. And a new sound card is on my list as well, the one I have now is at least 5 years old now. Time for a new one.

Bleh, you lucky bastard. I have to put up with my lousy Athlon 2000+ @ 1.66 GHz.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

New mobo will come with better sound built in than your old card. That video card is looking pretty low spec, make sure you get a pci-express mobo for the new one you will want. Going Asus?

Well it's better than the 1700+ I've been using up until now. I could almost play Large maps with that one. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a computer system to rebuild.

No Gigabyte. I was asking about the video card but I can't afford a new one right now, so I had to go for the AGP model. Apparently though the store I bought it from has a trade in policy so I can get a PCI-express version when I can afford to upgrade. At any rate, it only cost me about $100 so it's no big deal if I have to replace it. I'm thinking of the fall for a new card at the moment. I just bought this one last summer so I'm in no hurry. My next priority is a new sound card. I play music and I want something I can record with. Onboard sound just doesn't cut it for me.

No matter what you do, do not buy a Microstar mobo. I've got one, and it is giving me a lot of grief.

They should just gank the money I owe them from some millionaire who'll never miss it I say.

Better to owe them money than to have them owe it to you. Think of it this way - you've had the use of their money for the last year, rather than the other way around.

                  Or don't.

Anyway, P4 2.66 MhZ, 1GB RAM, 256 MB video is what I have - is that enough for huge maps?

It depends on your graphics card I think. Is it some bleeding edge thing?

your graphics card should be fine. mine is , its a 128 MB Raedon 9600 (2 years old) running at stock but only a passive heatsink i am thinking of sticking a fan to it to cool it down, damm aussie summers.

any new card you can buy now should be able to handle this anyways.
i would say the extra memory is more important though.
Get 1 Gig your hard drive will thank you

i play huge on my machine AMD2700 1 gig kingmax DDR PC 400 RAM 128MB R9600 without any problems uprading memory really sped things up. 1 512 megstick cost something like $70 Aus bout $50 US if the conversion is right.
                            DON'T skimp on the RAM

IMO you´re painting yourself in a corner if you buy a AGP video card/mobo. AGP is an obsolete standard. But if you can trade it in later it´s somewhat ok I guess... But it´s still a ***** to rebuild the whole comp twice in one year...
