      Humans cheating...

The AI would never resort to such lame and cheap tactics, you do realise that, right?

PS: just to make it clear: I'm not really accusing anyone of cheating, mkay.

Civ 3 was programmed not to attackt during the first ? turns, though honestly, I don't really know the situation for Civ4 (I assume, it's more simular to Civ3 than it is to Civ2).

Tried that once, the 1-pop city was empty, I declared war, moved into an adjacent tile. The next turn they had two warriors defending. And no, they didn't come from beyond my field of vision.

3 turns? How could you even get to the nearest civ in 3 turns?

Playing as the Incas on standard Pangea on Noble (11 civs high sea level) I started directly next to Cyrus' scout. I destroyed them in about 5 turns.

In another Incan Noble standard Pangea (12 civs I believe) I started with alexander and ghandi both within 7 spaces of my capital. Ghandi's site was unreal, it had 4 clams and pigs in the fat cross (and two hills). Alexander's had 3 clams and corn (and I think iron popped up there also). I held off until both of their cities were size two and took then.

In one strange game (Noble level, I think) my Chinese Warrior started right next to a Roman settler. I think it was even my first or second game, and I've never seen anything like it since.

I eventually lost the game; got caught up in some long and pointless wars against Napoleon and Montezuma, while the git Ghandi was well situated on a faraway continent with much more peaceful neighbours, and he eventually launched his Spaceship (beat me just barely). That's what you get for wasting hammers building stuff like the Internet when you could use the hammers to build spaceship parts...

I just played a game where my settler was 2 tiles away from the japanese settler.

He founded his city and the 2 warriors went their ways. I marched in and destroyed their city in 2 turns.
