  • GP percentages

My third question of the day - yes I am in one of those “this game is unfair” moods – concerns the way in which those GP percentages from Prophets, Great Scientist, Great Merchants etc are calculated. I’ve see many cases where the numbers are not based on the relative contributions of specialists and buildings.

Example 1: Oracle and Stonehenge with two Scientists

This gives 10 GP points with 4 from the wonders generating prophets and 6 from the scientist generating, great scientists. Quoted proportion of Prophet to Great Scientist is 50:50 and not 40:60

Example 2: Oracle, Great Library and National Epic (with Pacifism)

Oracle : 2 GP points (Prophet)
Great Library: 2 GP points (Scientist)
6 GP points (Scientist) from 2 free scientists
National Epic 1 GP point (Artist)

    Total GP points = 11 + 100% (Pacifism) + 100% (National Epic) = 33

Expected ratio of Prophet/Great Scientist/Great Artist is 2/8/1 or 18%/72%/9%
Quoted ratio of Prophet/Great Scientist/Great Artist is 20%/60%/20%.

    Ah, the 'Great Artist Blues'.

This drove me bananas during some overdosing on OCC a while back, where I was constantly getting Great Lousy Stinking Useless Artists instead of the Glorious Scientists I was seeking.

Here's the problem - National Wonders give double the GPP % which they should. So if you've built Great Lib and National Epic, instead of getting 66% GS and 33% GA as expected, the ratio is actually 50% and 50%, despite the great wonders supposed double strength GP type.

I eventually sussed this out in the Worldbuilder. I was so cheesed off that it was one of the reasons I stopped playing civ altogether.

I found the answer to this in another thread

It is not the amount of GP points that determines the percentages but the sources. In the Oracle, GL, Nat Epic example, the scientists from the GL are two “sources” as is the GL itself. The Oracle and Nat Epic are both sources giving the ratio 1:3:1
