  • Question about GNP

I am a bit confused about GNP. I've read that it is probably
the amount of raw commerce my empire is making, alright.

My problem however is that the GNP-graph and the ranking
in the demographics screen are different. Demographics says
i am 4th while the graph clearly indicates that i have the
highest GNP... Is this a bug?

    And which screen is right?

The graph does not show GNP, but instead shows your score or maybe some sort of power rating. GNP is not purely raw commerce, as I believe city and civic costs are deducted from raw commerce prior to its calculation. It is possible the effects of marketplaces etc are added in to the figures also.

there's a drop-down menu... the graph does show gnp, just not by default.

I've seen this too and been wondering about it. I wondered if one was showing gold rather than commerce, but it was too confusing to work out.

I've noticed that if any civ has a negative GNP, the GNP demographic ranking will be off. The game seems to rank negative scores above positive ones.

You cannot have a negative GNP. It is not possible by definition.

I got a -3 GNP before when I over-expand, so negative GNP is possible in this game.

I've also seen a negative GNP in the demographics.

I believe that GNP is the ammount of gold that you have to devote to your treasury, science, or culture AFTER civic costs, maintance, inflation, and troop costs.

And finally the finance screen. Income minus cost does not result in the value in demographics of 126.

Alright, I started a new game and watched the GNP - it is
income (gold+sience+culture) minus costs as stated earlier
                              by the keeper.
I dont know why the numbers were so off in my other
                              game...

I dont quite understand your comment. Am i right to assume
that it's just a snappy fanboy comment?
