  • PBeM File Corrupted?

    Hi, all!

I'm playing a PBeM game with a couple of my brothers-in-law (have been for around a month now) - we had a family get-together, and so we tried loading the game up as hotseat. Worked great - we played about 40 turns of the game.

After that, got home and was able to play MY turn loaded as a PBeM file... but then things went south.

The guy I sent the turn to was able to play, but then it said "Waiting for other players...." forever after his turn. A manual save got us past that - but then when the next guy tried playing the turn, it wouldn't let him do ANYTHING - he couldn't select any files or anything.

Is there any chance of recovering this game? Anyone have any ideas?

Forgot to mention - patch 1.52, 3 retail copies, no mods or anything.

If you patched *after* starting the game and saving then that might be it?

Unfortunately, no - 1.52 prior to the game starting (we made a point of getting all over the younger brother who still hadn't patched, actually. )

Everything with the game itself seems to be just fine - it's more of a "can I recover from whatever switching to hotseat did to my PBeM game" question, I guess...

You could try loading up an autosave of the hotseat game? It'd mean losing a few turns but it might be worth it. If that doesnt work either then it must be that you cant switch from PBEM to Hotseat then back.

Yeah, we did try that, sadly.

Something must happen to save games when you load them up as hotseat instead of PBeM - that's very, very, very disappointing.

Does anyone from Firaxis check this board?

Rarely if ever. They were much more active around the time of Civ3 and just before. Sadly they seem to have forgotten about us.

You could try emailing Kelley or calling 2K tech support although they are notoriously ignorant.

                That's not true.

They don't respond in every thread but they are around. They also have many minions wandering around to do just that job.

2K, sadly, is nonresponsive. That's why I turned to my friends at Apolyton.
